Indian Communist Party state secretary M. Veerapandian has urged that the Salem sexual assault case be handed over to the CBCID for investigation.
The statement issued by the Indian Communist Party says the following:
The news that a man named Manikandan (40), from the Kondalampatti area of Salem city, lured women in poverty by promising loans and forced them into sex work is deeply shocking.
In the investigation into this brutal incident, it has so far been revealed that more than 50 women were deceived.
Manikandan, who is involved in this case, was arrested the day before yesterday (12.06.2026) and has been remanded in judicial custody. A thorough investigation should also be conducted into the political background of the arrested Manikandan, and the details should be made public.
It is deeply distressing that sexual assault crimes are occurring every day. The new administration has formed the Lioness Special Force to ensure women’s safety. Its work should be expanded to the fullest extent.
It is necessary not to narrow the scope of the investigation by treating Manikandan alone as the culprit in the Salem sexual assault crimes, but to conduct a detailed inquiry into the background of the crime, including who the people were who acted as his backers.
Given that commercial criminal activities have been going on for a long time, a deep suspicion arises that they could not have escaped the attention of the police.
Therefore, the Tamil Nadu State Executive Committee of the Communist Party of India has stated in a release that it urges the Tamil Nadu government to transfer the case to the CBCID unit so that the investigation is conducted fairly.

இந்த வழக்கில் சம்பந்தப்பட்டுள்ள மணிகண்டன் நேற்று முன்தினம் (12.06.2026) கைது செய்யப்பட்டு, நீதிமன்றக் காவலில் வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளார். கைது செய்யப்பட்ட மணிகண்டனின் அரசியல் பின்னணி குறித்தும் தீவிரமாக விசாரித்து அதன் விபரத்தை வெளிப்படுத்த வேண்டும்.
