Accusing the authorities of not operating enough special trains for the competitive examination in Bihar, youths staged a sudden blockade at a railway station near Patna late on Saturday night.
Police dispersed the youths who pelted stones at them by lathi-charging and firing tear gas shells. In addition, police fired into the air to warn the protesters, causing tension. Police said anti-social elements had taken part in the protest under the guise of students.
Examinations for customs and excise department jobs were held in Bihar on Sunday. In view of this, students traveled on trains across the state on Saturday to reach their examination centers.
Taking the competitive exam into account, more than 200 young people staged a sudden blockade at midnight on Saturday at Pataliputra railway station near Patna, accusing the railway authorities of not operating enough special trains.
They insisted that a special train be operated for them from Patliputra railway station. Following this, police officers who rushed to Patliputra railway station along with the Railway Protection Force and Railway Police engaged in talks with the protesters. Considering the sudden crowd, a special train was brought in around 2 a.m.
However, since the youths continued their blockade, train services were disrupted. The protesters pelted stones at the police officers who tried to forcibly remove them.
Following this, additional police forces were deployed, and the youths were driven away by baton charges and tear gas. Warning the protesters, gunshots were fired into the air. Later, by early morning, the situation was brought under control.
In this regard, Eastern Railway Security Force IG Amresh Kumar said, “With the intention of getting the competitive examination canceled, some anti-social elements carried out such an act. As a result, the operation of some trains was delayed for a long time. Some other trains were diverted onto alternate routes. A case has been registered regarding the incident, and a detailed investigation will be conducted. The anti-social elements will be identified through CCTV camera footage,” he said.
