Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar said that all members will be trained on how to function in the legislative assembly.
Reports say this training has been made mandatory for them because 99 percent of the members elected on behalf of TVK are new to the assembly.
In this regard, Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar said at a press meet held at the Secretariat on Friday:
Generally, every time an election is completed and before the new assembly convenes, it is customary to provide orientation training to all elected members. In that way, a two-day training camp for all MLAs elected to the 17th Legislative Assembly is set to be held at Kalaivanar Arangam in Chennai on the 16th and 17th, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Chief Minister Vijay is inaugurating this camp. In it, government department secretaries and subject experts will provide training on the decorum, procedures, and rules that legislative assembly members must follow in the House. They will also be given comprehensive training on what is permitted to be spoken in the Assembly, what should not be spoken, and what the procedures are for raising questions. All-party members should participate in this and benefit from it.
Former ministers and senior members may participate in the training if they wish. They can attend the training and share their experiences with the new members. After the first session concludes, legislative committees will be formed.
We are considering broadcasting the proceedings of the Assembly live. Since words that should be removed from the official record would also be aired live, we are discussing how to avoid that. Until full live broadcasting is implemented, the Assembly proceedings will be broadcast following the current procedures, he said.
