With 163 seats needed for a two-thirds majority in the Rajya Sabha, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance is moving closer to that mark.
As far as the Lok Sabha is concerned, even though around 20 disgruntled Trinamool Congress MPs have expressed support for the BJP alliance, it still needs more seats to reach the two-thirds majority mark of 363.
It is noteworthy that a two-thirds majority is required in Parliament to pass important constitutional amendment bills.
Elections for 24 Rajya Sabha MP seats whose terms will soon end in 10 states, including Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat, along with by-elections for one vacant seat each in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Odisha, were recently announced.
In this election for a total of 27 seats, 24 candidates, including Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, were elected unopposed. Of these, 19 are candidates of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance. With this, the National Democratic Alliance’s strength in the Rajya Sabha has risen to 148.
Since a contest has arisen only in the two states of Jharkhand (2) and Mizoram (1), elections are set to be held on June 18. The BJP alliance is likely to capture all three of these seats. Therefore, its strength will rise to 151.
Trinamool split works in BJP’s favor: In the Trinamool Congress, which suffered defeat in the recent West Bengal Assembly election, internal factionalism and splits have reached a peak. Of the party’s total 80 MLAs, more than 60 dissatisfied MLAs have broken away to form a separate group.
3 Rajya Sabha MPs belonging to the Trinamool Congress have resigned so far. Since the BJP is expected to win all three seats in the by-election held for these vacancies, the alliance’s strength will rise to 154.

64 seats for the opposition: The opposition INDIA alliance currently has 64 MPs in the Rajya Sabha. The DMK, which broke ties with the Congress, has 8 MPs, and the Aam Aadmi Party, which has already left the INDIA alliance, has 3 MPs.

மேலும் பல திரிணமூல் காங்கிரஸ் எம்.பி.க்கள் பதவி விலகினால், மாநிலங்களவையில் மூன்றில் இரு பங்கு பெரும்பான்மையை (163) பாஜக எட்டுவதற்கு வழி ஏற்படும். மாநிலங்களவையில் மொத்த இடங்கள் 245 ஆகும்.
எதிரணிக்கு 64 இடங்கள்: எதிா்க்கட்சிகளின் இண்டி கூட்டணிக்கு மாநிலங்களவையில் தற்போது 64 எம்.பி.க்கள் உள்ளனா். காங்கிரஸுடன் உறவை முறித்துக் கொண்ட திமுகவுக்கு 8 எம்.பி.க்களும், இண்டி கூட்டணியில் இருந்து ஏற்கெனவே விலகிவிட்ட ஆம் ஆத்மிக்கு 3 எம்.பி.க்களும் உள்ளனா்.
இதேபோல், இரு அணியையும் சாராத ஒய்எஸ்ஆா் காங்கிரஸுக்கு 7 எம்.பி.க்களும், பிஜு ஜனதா தளத்துக்கு 6 எம்.பி.க்களும் உள்ளனா்.
