In the Sulur Assembly constituency, out of a total of 307,616 voters, 271,567 people voted. Among them, D.V.K. candidate Sukumar, who received 90,531 votes, won by a margin of 4,790 votes. A.D.M.K. candidate Kandhasamy, who received 85,741 votes, secured second place, and D.M.K. candidate Thalapathi Murugesan, who received 83,654 votes, came in third. In the elections held so far in this constituency, A.D.M.K. and Congress have each won twice, and D.M.K. has won once. This constituency, considered one of the strongholds of A.D.M.K., saw D.V.K. candidate Sukumar win for the first time.
Sukumar (56) from the Vellalur area of Coimbatore has an ITI education. He is engaged in businesses including real estate. He was previously with AIADMK but joined DMK a few years ago. Later, he sought an opportunity to contest as a councilor for Vellalur municipality in the urban-rural local body elections on behalf of DMK. Due to dissatisfaction over being denied the opportunity, he left DMK and joined TVK. Contesting in elections for the first time, Sukumar has been elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly. பின்னர் நகர்ப்புற ஊரக உள்ளாட்சித் தேர்தலில் தி.மு.க. சார்பில் வெள்ளலூர் பேரூராட்சியில் கவுன்சிலராகப் போட்டியிட வாய்ப்பு கேட்டார். வாய்ப்பு மறுக்கப்பட்டதால் ஏற்பட்ட அதிருப்தி காரணமாக, தி.மு.க-வில் இருந்து விலகி த.வெ.க-வில் இணைந்தார். முதல் முறையாகத் தேர்தலில் களம் கண்ட சுகுமார் சட்டமன்ற உறுப்பினராகத் தேர்வாகியுள்ளார்.
