Rameshkrishnan, a DMK branch secretary, is from the Kumaramangalam area near Valangaiman in Tiruvarur district. It is said that during the previous DMK regime, he collected money from several people by claiming that then minister Anbil Mahesh was his close relative and that he would secure government jobs for them.
He took Rs. 42 lakh from Annamalai, a resident of the Velangudi area, promising to get him a Public Relations Assistant Officer job, but he neither secured the job as promised nor did he return the money, and then went into hiding. Distressed by this, Annamalai died by suicide by hanging himself at home on the 5th, when no one was present.
Shocked Annamalai’s relatives refused to accept the body and staged a protest. In addition, allegations that a scam of around Rs. 4 crore was carried out using the name of former minister Anbil Mahesh have caused a stir.
We spoke about this with Annamalai’s wife, Priyanka. “My husband had been working as a temporary employee at a college. Rameshkrishnan, the DMK branch secretary, told my husband that Minister Anbil Mahesh is a close relative of mine. His assistant, Vaaladi Karthi, is also close to me. He said that if money was given, he would get a government job.
He also used to meet Anbil Mahesh frequently. Rameshkrishnan showed an advertisement saying that the Department of Information and Public Relations was recruiting for the post of Public Relations Assistant and said, ‘I will get you a job.’ For that, he asked them to send money to two bank account numbers in Chennai, saying they belonged to people working in the Secretariat.
Initially, we sent Rs. 5 lakh. Later, he said that my husband had received a job order and showed a government order signed by an official with the government seal, saying that they were going to appoint him directly at the Secretariat on 26.7.2023, and that money had to be paid before that.
Seeing the order, we became fully confident. We mortgaged our farmland, borrowed money, arranged the funds, and gave Rs. 37 lakh to Ramesh Krishnan. Later, he showed a letter saying that the appointment ceremony was being temporarily postponed due to then Chief Minister Stalin’s tour. But nothing happened as promised.
He kept dragging on the months with excuses, but did not get us the job. At one point, when we went in person to the Secretariat with the order letter he had given and inquired, we found out it was false and were devastated.
Moreover, it was found that he had taken several lakhs of rupees from many people by promising to get them jobs in the same way. Once the truth came out, he went into hiding after everyone started demanding their money back. He has cheated nearly Rs. 4 crore by using Anbil Mahesh’s name. Regarding this, we had then filed a complaint with the Chief Minister’s Special Cell. The then Chief Minister Stalin did not properly investigate this and take action. If he had done so, my husband would not have taken such a tragic decision today. I do not know how I will raise and bring up my twin daughters, who are four years old,” she said.
Avur DMK branch secretary Govindaraj told us, "Ramesh Krishnan, who introduced himself as a DMK member, would take us to Tiruchi for Anbil Mahesh’s father Poyyamozhi’s birthday and memorial day events. We would also go and pay our respects. At that time, he would be close to Anbil Mahesh. He said he would speak to Anbil Mahesh and get a public relations assistant officer job for my son, who had studied B.E. I too believed he was one of our party men and gave him Rs. 25 lakh. When I asked Ramesh Krishnan why the job was getting delayed, he said he had spoken to Anbil Mahesh’s assistant Vaaladi Karthi, and then suddenly disappeared."
At that time, even after complaints were filed with the Chief Minister’s special cell and the police, no proper action was taken. Rameshkrishnan has assets and property. It is said that his son-in-law is serving as a commissioner in the municipality. Chief Minister Vijay should take action to seize Rameshkrishnan’s properties and hand them over to those who were cheated after paying him money," he said.

During the investigation, police say that he had pointed to an assistant of a minister from Pudukkottai district in the previous regime, and to someone from Ariyalur who is in the film industry. When we asked Vaaladi Karthi for an explanation about this, he said, “When I was a minister, many people would come to see me; I never stopped anyone. There is not even the slightest connection between us and the person against whom the complaint has been made. They are misusing our name unnecessarily in this. We do not have the habit of taking money for jobs. Everyone knows this,” he said.

வேலங்குடி பகுதியைச் சேர்ந்த அண்ணாமலையிடம் மக்கள் தொடர்பு உதவி அலுவலர் வேலை வாங்கி தருகிறேன் என்று ரூ.42 லட்சம் வாங்கியவர் சொன்னபடி வேலை வாங்கித் தராததோடு தலைமறைவாகி விட்டார். இதனால் மன உளைச்சலுக்கு ஆளான அண்ணாமலை கடந்த 5ம் தேதி வீட்டில் யாரும் இல்லாத நேரத்தில் தூக்கிட்டு தற்கொலை செய்து கொண்டார்.
அதிர்ச்சியடைந்த அண்ணாமலை உறவினர்கள் உடலை வாங்க மறுத்து போராட்டம் நடத்தினர். மேலும் முன்னாள் அமைச்சர் அன்பில் மகேஸ் பெயரை பயன்படுத்தி சுமார் ரூ.4 கோடி மோசடி நடந்திருப்பதாக குற்றச்சாட்டு எழுப்பியது சலசலப்பை கிளப்பியிருக்கிறது.

ஆவூர் தி.மு.க கிளைச் செயலாளர் கோவிந்தராஜ் நம்மிடம், “தி.மு.கவைச் சேர்ந்தவர் என்ற முறையில் அறிமுகமான ரமேஷ்கிருஷ்ணன் அன்பில் மகேஸ் அப்பா பொய்யாமொழி பிறந்த நாள், நினைவு நாள் நிகழ்ச்சிகளுக்கு எங்களை திருச்சிக்கு அழைத்துச் செல்வார். நாங்களும் போய் மரியாதை செய்வோம். அப்போது அன்பில் மகேஸ்கிட்ட நெருக்கமாக இருப்பார். பி.இ படித்த என் மகனுக்கு அன்பில் மகேஸிடத்தில் சொல்லி மக்கள் தொடர்பு உதவி அலுவலர் வேலை வாங்கி தருவதாக சொன்னார். நானும் நம்ம கட்சிக்காரர் தானே என்று நம்பி ரூ.25 லட்சம் கொடுத்தேன். ஏன் வேலை கிடைப்பது தாமதமாகிறது என்று ரமேஷ் கிருஷ்ணன்கிட்ட கேட்டேன். அதற்கு அன்பில் மகேஸ் உதவியாளர் வாளாடி கார்த்தியிடம் பேசியிருப்பதாக சொன்னவர் திடீர்னு தலைமறைவாகி விட்டார்.
