In a statement issued by Tamil Nadu Congress Committee State General Secretary Ganapathi Sivakumar, “Over the past few days, after T.V.K. came to power, it has been noteworthy that many people from other parties have been joining that party.
Such individuals should be admitted into the party only after a thorough review of their background, intentions, and past activities. In particular, some people including local body representatives, district and state office-bearers, and workers from the Congress party have recently joined T.V.K.
Considering the dignity of coalition ethics, it was essential to have refrained from admitting them into the party.
During the recently concluded legislative assembly election, when the DMK and AIADMK made various political moves with the intention that TVK should not come to power, it was the Congress party that first extended unconditional support to TVK.
Following Congress’s stance, the other alliance parties also extended their support. Because of this, the political strategies of the DMK and AIADMK did not succeed.
In such a situation, it is unacceptable for TVK to absorb the office-bearers and cadres of the alliance parties that were instrumental in helping TVK form the government.
In the past, even when office-bearers of parties in the alliance left due to differences of opinion, the DMK has upheld political decorum by not inducting them into its own party in order to respect the alliance. The Congress leadership itself did not encourage efforts to bring Congress cadres into the DMK.
However, at present, the joining of office-bearers from alliance parties including the Congress into TVK would not only undermine alliance ethics but also lead to unnecessary criticism and political controversy.
Therefore, it has been stated that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK leader Vijay should, from now on, refrain from encouraging such actions and should act with due respect for the sentiments of alliance parties.”
