As a result of the news published on the Vikatan website, the Tasmac shop near a school and a church in Chief Minister Vijay’s Perambur constituency has been shut down.
After the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election, in which the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam won and Vijay took office as Chief Minister, an announcement was made that "717 liquor shops located within about 500 meters of schools and places of worship will be closed within two weeks."
While this announcement received a huge welcome from the public, some also complained that the action was being carried out very slowly.
Against this backdrop, even after two weeks had passed since the government order was issued, some people complained to us that in certain places the liquor shops mentioned above were not being removed. So we went there ourselves and made a direct visit after seeing that a Tasmac shop, located very close to both a school and a church in Kodungaiyur in the Perambur constituency, the Chief Minister’s own constituency, had continued to operate.
If you turn right at the point where the road leading into Kodungaiyur from the Moolakadai flyover ends, after passing four or five shops, it is the second shop at No. 18, Kamarajar Nagar, Kodungaiyur.
After crossing four buildings from the shop, there is a church and, opposite it, Vivekananda Matriculation School. We spoke to the shop manager and reported on the fact that the shop had continued operating there.
'Under the previous administration, there was a rule that liquor shops should not be within 50 meters of schools and temples. This shop is 65 meters away from both the church and that school.
When the new government came in, they changed it from 50 meters to 500 meters. But this shop did not appear in the list of 717 shops that were listed after making that change. You should ask the officials at that level for the reason. If an order comes to move the shop to another location, we are ready to shift it," said that manager.
'At the shop, every day by twelve noon, the drinking crowd would gather. By evening, there was no need to even ask. When the Chief Minister’s announcement came, we thought, “Ah, finally this trouble is gone.” But the shop was there yesterday too. It will be there today as well. There is no sign at all that the shop will be emptied,' the local residents had vented their frustration.
In this situation, two days ago, the concerned shop was removed from that location.
We spoke to the person who had set up the meat shop near the store.
''They came two days earlier and vacated the shop. They said they were vacating it in accordance with the government order that liquor shops should not be near schools. Because of this shop, this area had traffic problems at night. Besides, there was also an atmosphere in which the public was afraid to move around. In that sense, it can definitely be said that the government's action will bring happiness to the people,'' he said.
Let the government's good practice of taking swift action when problems are pointed out continue.

‘கடையில் தினமும் பன்னிரண்டு மணி ஆனாலே குடிக்கக் கூட்டம் கூடிவிடும். சாயங்காலம் கேட்கவே தேவையில்லை. முதலமைச்சர் அறிவிப்பு வந்தபோது, ‘அப்பாடா, ஒருவழியாக இந்தத் தொல்லை ஒழிந்தது’ என்று நினைத்தோம். ஆனால், நேற்றும் கடை இருந்தது. இன்றும் இருக்கும். கடை காலியாகும் அறிகுறியே தெரியவில்லை’ எனத் தங்கள் ஆதங்கத்தைக் கொட்டியிருந்தனர் அந்தப் பகுதி மக்கள்.

”ரெண்டு நாள் முன்னாடியே வந்து கடையைக் காலி செய்துட்டாங்க. பள்ளிக் கூடம் பக்கத்துல மதுக்கடைகள் இருக்கக் கூடாதுன்னுஅரசு போட்ட உத்தரவுப்படி காலி செய்வதாகச் சொன்னாங்க. இந்தக் கடையால் இந்தப் பகுதி இரவு நேரங்களில் ட்ராபிக் பிரச்னை இருந்தது. தவிர பொதுமக்கள் நடமாட அச்சப்பட்ட ஒரு சூழலும் இருந்தது. அந்த வகையில் அரசின் நடவடிக்கை மக்களுக்கு மகிழ்ச்சியைத் தரும்னு உறுதியாச் சொல்லலாம்” என்றார் அவர்.
பிரச்னைகளைச் சுட்டிக் காட்டினால் துரித நடவடிக்கை என்கிற அரசின் நல்ல நடவடிக்கை தொடரட்டும்.
