Coimbatore: Police are investigating the incident in which a female student died by suicide in Coimbatore out of fear of a NEET retest.
Senthilprabhu, a resident of Farooq Nagar in Kovai Pudur within the Coimbatore city limits, works as a supervisor at a TASMAC shop. He is also the general secretary of the Coimbatore CITU TASMAC workers’ union. He has a wife and two daughters. His elder daughter is Anukeerthana (19). After completing Class 12, she had been preparing for the NEET exam in order to pursue medical studies. Anukeerthana had taken the NEET exam twice before and had failed both times.
For the third consecutive time, student Anukeerthana has appeared for the NEET exam this year as well. However, due to the issue of the question paper being leaked beforehand, the recently conducted NEET exam was canceled. The NEET exam is set to be conducted again in the next few days.
Since the NEET exam was canceled, the student became distressed. It appears she had been in a state of mental turmoil, afraid that she would have to take the NEET re-exam. In this situation, until midnight yesterday (June 16), student Anukeerthana studied for the NEET exam. After midnight, she went to sleep.
Meanwhile, Anukeerthana, a student who was under mental stress due to fear of the NEET retest, drank a liquid balm used for applying to headaches before going to sleep late last night. After that, her body was affected. Seeing this, her parents questioned the student. In that, she said that she had tried to commit suicide by drinking the balm.
Following this, the family rescued student Anukeerthana and took her to a private hospital in Avarampalayam. She was given intensive treatment there. Later, for further treatment, the student was shifted to Coimbatore Government Hospital. There, despite treatment, the student died. Kuniyamuthur police are investigating the incident.
