Tiruchi: The Bharathidasan University has said that the PM-KUSUM scheme implemented by the Central government, based on the suggestion of a professor from Tiruchi Bharathidasan University to install solar panels on barren land not suitable for agriculture and provide farmers with additional income, has received a good response.
A press release issued by Tiruchi Bharathidasan University said: Bharathidasan University professor K. Madan submitted a detailed development project proposal to the Prime Minister’s Office through the internet on September 4, 2017.
The central government should create a specific, subsidized scheme to encourage farmers to install solar panels on their barren lands that cannot be used for farming.
He noted that this would enable farmers to earn a steady additional income and to generate electricity and sell it directly to the government.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy accepted this proposal on Sept. 8, 2017. Later, in March 2019, it was officially launched nationwide as the PM-KUSUM (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan) scheme.
This event stands as proof that the Prime Minister’s grievance redressal and advisory framework is not merely a platform for hearing complaints, but a two-way channel that works in partnership with the public.
Under this scheme, more than 21.7 lakh farmers have benefited since March 2019. From one acre of fallow land, they earn between Rs. 60,000 and Rs. 80,000 a year as lease income without any labor.
They are generating green electricity and contributing to environmental protection as well as the country’s development. This is what it stated.
