During the Bakrid festival, restrictions were imposed on the slaughter of cattle, and the Humanitarian People’s Party in the Assembly on Friday urged the government to take steps to amend them.
Debate held on this matter:
M.H. Jawahirullah (MMK, Nagapattinam): In 2007, former Chief Minister Karunanidhi provided 3.5 percent reservation for Muslims. The details of those who have benefited from it so far should be released as a white paper. When the Central government moved the Waqf Amendment Act, the previous DMK government passed a resolution in the Assembly against it. The then Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced that the law would not be allowed to be implemented in Tamil Nadu. The TVK government should clarify its position on this issue.
A few weeks ago, during the Bakrid festival, the Chennai High Court imposed restrictions on the slaughter of cattle. This is not just a problem for Muslims; it is a public issue. The Tamil Nadu government should also state what it is going to do to amend the court’s ruling in this matter.
Madar Badhrudeen (TVK, Madurai Central): In Islamic law itself, it is defined that cows and calves should not be sacrificed. That is exactly what the court has also said. Apart from that, the government made arrangements for Muslims to safely celebrate Bakrid by sacrificing goats and cattle. There is hope that the Chief Minister will take action to increase the existing 3.5 percent reservation for Muslims to 7 percent.

சில வாரங்களுக்கு முன்பு பக்ரீத் பண்டிகையின்போது மாடுகள் பலியிட சென்னை உயா்நீதிமன்றம் கட்டுப்பாடு விதித்தது. இது இஸ்லாமியா்களின் பிரச்னை மட்டுமல்ல; பொது பிரச்னை. இந்த விவகாரத்தில் நீதிமன்றம் பிறப்பித்த தீா்ப்பைத் திருத்துவதற்கு தமிழக அரசு என்ன செய்யப் போகிறது என்பதையும் தெரிவிக்க வேண்டும்.
மதாா் பதுருதீன் (தவெக, மதுரை மத்தி): பசுக்கள், கன்றுகளை பலியிடக் கூடாது என இஸ்லாமிய சட்டத்திலேயே வரையறுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. அதைத்தான் நீதிமன்றமும் கூறியுள்ளது. அதைத் தவிா்த்து இஸ்லாமியா்கள் ஆடு, மாடுகளைப் பலியிட்டு பாதுகாப்பாக பக்ரீத் பண்டிகையைக் கொண்டாட அரசு வழிவகுத்தது. தற்போது இஸ்லாமியா்களுக்கு உள்ள 3.5 சதவீத இடஒதுக்கீட்டை 7 சதவீதமாக உயா்த்த முதல்வா் நடவடிக்கை எடுப்பாா் என்ற நம்பிக்கை உள்ளது.
