Following the victory of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam in the 2026 Assembly election held in Tamil Nadu, its leader Vijay assumed office as Chief Minister. Likewise, the AIADMK, which won 47 seats in this election, split into two factions under the leadership of Edappadi Palaniswami and under the leadership of S.P. Velumani and C.V. Shanmugam.
When Chief Minister Vijay moved the motion to prove a majority in the Legislative Assembly on 13.05.2026, 22 MLAs led by AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi Palaniswami opposed it.
At the same time, 25 MLAs led by C.V. Shanmugam and S.P. Velumani extended their support to the TVK. As a result, Vijay-led TVK proved its majority with 144 MLAs.
Following that, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi Palaniswami ordered the removal of several people, including S.P. Velumani, C.V. Shanmugam, Vijayabaskar, M.C. Sampath, and Arunmozhi Thevan, who had supported TVK, from party posts.
Furthermore, Edappadi Palaniswami assigned responsibilities to those who had been sidelined by the removed leaders and to those who had been sidelined by the party. In that regard, in Cuddalore district, the post held by M.C. Sampath as Cuddalore North district secretary was taken away and given to former minister M.C. Damodaran.
Similarly, the post held by Arulmozhi Thevan as West district secretary was taken away and given to Sorathur Rajendran, the MLA from the Neyveli constituency.
M.C. Damodaran, who currently holds the post of Cuddalore North district secretary, is the elder brother of former minister M.C. Sampath. In the 1991 Assembly election, Jayalalithaa appointed Damodaran, who won the Nellikuppam constituency on behalf of the AIADMK, as the Minister for Animal Husbandry in her first cabinet.
In the 1996 election that followed, Jayalalithaa wanted to field Damodaran’s wife in that constituency. But when Damodaran did not agree to it, Jayalalithaa sidelined him, stripped him of the district secretary post he held, and gave it to M.C. Sampath.
After that, Sampath, who remained in Jayalalithaa’s good books until her death, went around as the petty king of Cuddalore district.
M.C. Sampath was always made a minister whenever the A.D.M.K. came to power. It was Edappadi Palaniswami who has now sidelined him. After that, M.C. Sampath tried to seize the party office along with his supporters.
But that too went into the hands of the new district secretary, Damodaran. Since most of the party functionaries and workers stood on the side of the new district secretary, M.C. Sampath was left disheartened. Moreover, because the new district secretary is his own elder brother, he quietly stepped aside.
But one of the lessons taught by political wisdom is that those who have tasted power can never remain at peace. Accordingly, in the style of “Power is what matters, Minister…!”, M.C. Sampath has joined the T.V.K. in the presence of T.V.K. general secretary and Minister Bussy Anand.

தற்போது கடலூர் வடக்கு மாவட்டச் செயலாளர் பதவியைப் பெற்றிருக்கும் எம்.சி.தாமோதரன், முன்னாள் அமைச்சர் எம்.சி.சம்பத்தின் உடன் பிறந்த மூத்த சகோதரர். 1991 சட்டப்பேரவைத் தேர்தலில் அ.தி.மு.க சார்பில் நெல்லிக்குப்பம் தொகுதியில் வெற்றிபெற்ற தாமோதரனை, தன்னுடைய முதல் அமைச்சரவையில் கால்நடை பராமரிப்புத் துறை அமைச்சராக அமர வைத்தார் ஜெயலலிதா.
அடுத்து வந்த 1996 தேர்தலில் அந்தத் தொகுதியில் தாமோதரனின் மனைவியை நிறுத்த நினைத்தார் ஜெயலலிதா. ஆனால் தாமோதரன் அதற்கு ஒப்புக் கொள்ளாததால் அவரை டம்மியாக்கிய ஜெயலலிதா, அவரிடம் இருந்த மாவட்டச் செயலாளர் பதவியைப் பறித்து எம்.சி.சம்பத்துக்கு வழங்கினார்.
அதையடுத்து ஜெயலலிதா இறக்கும் வரை அவரது குட்புக்கில் இருந்த சம்பத், கடலூர் மாவட்டத்தின் குறுநில மன்னராக வலம் வந்தார்.
அ.தி.மு.க ஆட்சியில் அமரும்போதெல்லாம் அமைச்சராகவே இருந்தார் எம்.சி.சம்பத். அவரைத்தான் இப்போது ஓரம்கட்டினார் எடப்பாடி பழனிசாமி. அதன்பிறகு தன்னுடைய ஆதரவாளர்களுடன் கட்சி அலுவலகத்தைக் கைப்பற்ற நினைத்தார் எம்.சி.சம்பத்.
