Due to the uncertainty surrounding leadership in the Trinamool Congress, dissident leader Arup Biswas, who was removed from the post of treasurer by Mamata Banerjee, has written a letter requesting that the party’s bank accounts be frozen.
This is being seen as another setback for the Mamata camp.
In the recent West Bengal election, the Trinamool Congress suffered a crushing defeat. Shaken by this loss, divisions and internal party conflicts have increased within the party against Mamata.
Out of the total 80 MLAs, more than 60 disgruntled MLAs have broken away as a separate faction. Similarly, 20 of the party’s 29 Lok Sabha MPs have split off as a separate group, joined the little-known Nationalist Citizens Party, and expressed support for the BJP alliance at the Centre.
In this situation, Arup Biswas, who was the Trinamool Congress treasurer, also turned into a Mamata opponent. Following this, Mamata’s camp recently removed him from the post of treasurer. However, Arup refused to accept that decision.
In this context, there is uncertainty over the party leadership, and Arup’s letter to a private bank in Kolkata, requesting that the party’s bank accounts be frozen, has caused a stir.
In the letter released on social media, he has requested, “The party’s bank accounts should be frozen until a solution is found to the issue of the Trinamool Congress leadership. Transactions or changes in terms should not be permitted.”
The bank account in question is one of the principal bank accounts of the Trinamool Congress party. According to the audit details submitted by the party to the Election Commission, the balance in that bank account is estimated at Rs. 675 crore.

சம்பந்தப்பட்ட வங்கிக் கணக்கு, திரிணமூல் காங்கிரஸ் கட்சியின் பிரதான வங்கிக் கணக்குகளில் ஒன்றாகும். தோ்தல் ஆணையத்திடம் கட்சி தரப்பில் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்ட தணிக்கை விவரங்களின்படி, அந்த வங்கிக் கணக்கில் ரூ.675 கோடி வைப்புத்தொகை இருப்பதாக மதிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.
