To attract industrial investments to Tamil Nadu, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will travel to Britain today (Sept. 10).
In this regard, a press release issued by the Tamil Nadu government states:
The Tamil Nadu government is working with the main objective of making Tamil Nadu the foremost investment-friendly hub in Asia.
Within 100 days of the government led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay taking office, the Tamil Nadu government has signed memorandums of understanding for investments worth more than one lakh crore rupees through the Victory Tamil Nadu Investors Conference 2026.
Multinational companies from various European countries have proposed investment projects worth around Rs. 8,491 crore, and these are expected to create employment opportunities for about 5,690 people. This highlights the growing interest and confidence of investors in Tamil Nadu in the investment markets.
The India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), which came into effect on 15.07.2026, has further strengthened these initiatives. On the very first day the CETA agreement came into force, export goods were dispatched from Chennai, making Tamil Nadu one of the leading states in implementing this agreement.
Tamil Nadu has strong industrial capabilities across a range of manufacturing and service sectors. Through this agreement, a variety of new opportunities have emerged in these sectors. In particular, the textiles and apparel, leather and footwear, auto components, engineering goods, and electronics sectors are well positioned to take advantage of the growing opportunities in the British market. In addition, this agreement creates scope for securing joint venture partners and for generating new opportunities for technological collaboration and investments.
Companies from Britain have long been operating significantly in Tamil Nadu in sectors including engineering, financial services, and technology. Many of these companies have established and are operating manufacturing plants and global capability centers (GCCs) in Tamil Nadu. Further strengthening such ties, expanding the operations of existing companies, and attracting new investments in sectors such as advanced manufacturing, automobiles and electric vehicles, electronics, and global capability centers (GCCs) are among the key objectives of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s current visit to the United Kingdom. This will create opportunities to generate high-quality jobs in Tamil Nadu.
Furthermore, building on the already well-established automobile and electric vehicle manufacturing ecosystem in Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has announced under Assembly Rule No. 110 that a world-class ‘Motor Sports City’ will be established in the state.
In order to advance this announcement, it would be beneficial to directly inspect the world’s leading motor sports infrastructure facilities and learn from their best practices. As part of this, a visit to the renowned ‘Silverstone Motor Racing Circuit’ is planned.
Through this, one can gain a detailed understanding of track design, safety systems, and best practices for operating such facilities efficiently and commercially, as well as learn about the opportunities in motorsports infrastructure, sports tourism, and the related specialized vehicle industries.
The team led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will depart from Chennai today (Sept. 10) and return to Chennai on Sept. 17. It has been stated that the team includes Hon’ble Minister for Public Works and Sports Development Aadhav Arjuna, Member Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority (SDAT) Megenath Reddy, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the industrial guidance agency (Guidance) Deepak Jacob, and government officials.
