The Ministry of Defence said on Saturday that tests of the multi-layered missile defence system (BMD), which intercepts and destroys enemy missiles from medium and long ranges in the air, were successfully conducted.
This BMD system has the capability to intercept and destroy in the air enemy aircraft, including nuclear missiles from long distances and airborne warning and control system aircraft.
According to the press release issued by the Ministry of Defence on this matter: On the 10th and 11th, the BMD system was subjected to three different tests in succession. In particular, its ability to intercept missiles coming from within and outside the Earth’s atmospheric boundary was tested. In that, the BMD system successfully intercepted the targets. With this, India has joined the list of a few countries that have acquired BMD capability.
Along with this, a successful test was also conducted of a medium-range missile designed to strike and destroy an enemy ship.
Through this, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully demonstrated several key technologies that strengthen the country’s defence capabilities against various kinds of threats, the Ministry of Defence said.
