In a financial fraud case, a search for an aide who had gone into hiding led to a raid by the state police at the home of MP Abhishek Banerjee, nephew of former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, early on Saturday, causing a stir.
A kidnapping and land fraud case has been registered by the police against former Trinamool Congress MLA Sujoy Hazra. Hazra was arrested in this case on the 6th. The police have also filed a financial fraud case against Roy, alleging that there were monetary transactions between Hazra and Abhishek Banerjee’s aide Sumitra Roy. In this case, police conducted a sudden search at Abhishek Banerjee’s house in Kolkata at around 2 a.m. on Saturday. The search continued until 7 a.m. After that, the police left. On learning about the search, Mamata Banerjee rushed there and waited until the police had left. During the search, police personnel and Central Reserve Force personnel were deployed around Abhishek Banerjee’s house.
Police officials have explained that the search was conducted at Abhishek Banerjee’s house on suspicion that Roy may have been hiding there. Police sources also said that Roy’s mobile phone was seized from Abhishek Banerjee’s house.
Police officials said that even after repeatedly knocking on Abhishek Banerjee’s house door, it was not opened, and that they waited outside the house for several hours because of this. At the same time, Abhishek Banerjee has alleged that the police broke the lock, entered inside, and searched the entire house.
Trinamool condemnation: The Trinamool Congress party has strongly condemned this raid. In a post on the X page, the party MP Sagarika Ghose criticized it, saying that nothing was found in the raid and that this was a political act of revenge.
BJP counterattack: The BJP has rejected the allegations made by the Trinamool Congress. Regarding this, the party’s senior leader Locket Chatterjee said, “The investigative agencies are functioning independently. No individual is above the law. During their time in power, the people punished the Trinamool Congress by removing them from office for the looting they were involved in. The Trinamool Congress has reached the peak of corruption. The party’s leaders must face the investigation. No one can escape it,” she said.
