Sriniidhi from Coimbatore had been serving as the National Secretary of the Youth Congress. In the recently concluded Assembly election, Sriniidhi contested from the Singanallur constituency and lost the chance of victory. Amid ongoing differences of opinion between Congress party functionaries and her over the past few days, Sriniidhi resigned from the Congress party. Following this, Sriniidhi joined the DMK today in the presence of DMK leader Stalin. This is an interview Sriniidhi gave us regarding this.
What is the reason for leaving the Congress party?
“In the last Assembly election, two seats were given to the Youth Congress with the aim of giving opportunities to young people. Rahul Gandhi gave me a chance, saying that the practice of repeatedly giving seats to those who had already been given tickets three times and lost should be broken. But factional infighting began within just a few days of my announcement. There is a lot of internal factional conflict within the Congress party. Some women leaders within the Tamil Nadu Congress party do not want women politicians to grow. They made unnecessary false allegations against me. I sent letters to the leaders about this. I have also submitted documents to the fact-finding committee. Even so, I cannot accept remaining silent about the horse-trading that continues to take place. That is why I decided to leave the Congress party.”
Was the election defeat the reason for taking this decision?
“I faced the election honestly. I lost only because of a wave. When I joined the Congress in 2021, the BJP was in power at the Centre and the DMK was in power in the state. Congress was in power in only two states. I joined Congress as a democratic party against communal forces. I worked sincerely for five years. However, due to internal party conflicts, I was unable to continue working. When I say there were shortcomings, I decided to step down because no swift action was taken.”
What was the reason you joined the DMK?
“Everyone will follow those who win in order to get positions and power. But that alone is not politics. Today, people are moving toward magic-like politics. But that mask will soon be torn away. I have chosen the DMK because I want to travel on the path of ideological politics. For everything in Tamil Nadu, and against communal forces, the first voice to speak up is former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. The need of the hour is for Tamil Nadu to have Dravidian ideology. But one Dravidian party has been completely destroyed. Therefore, I have joined the DMK because social justice and equality must continue.”

காங்கிரஸ் கட்சியில் இருந்து விலகுவதற்கான காரணம் என்ன?
”கடந்த சட்டமன்றத் தேர்தலில் இளைஞர்களுக்கு வாய்ப்பு அளிக்க வேண்டும் என இளைஞர் காங்கிரஸ்க்கு 2 சீட்டுகள் தரப்பட்டன. ஏற்கெனவே 3 முறை சீட் தந்து தோற்றவர்களுக்கு திரும்பத் திரும்ப சீட் தருவதை உடைக்க வேண்டும் என ராகுல் காந்தி எனக்கு வாய்ப்பு தந்தார். ஆனால் என்னை அறிவித்த சில நாள்களிலேயே கோஷ்டிப் பூசல் ஆரம்பித்துவிட்டது. காங்கிரஸ் கட்சிக்குள் உட்கட்சிப் பூசல் அதிகமுள்ளது. பெண் அரசியல்வாதிகள் வளர்வதை தமிழ்நாடு காங்கிரஸ் கட்சிக்குள் இருக்கும் சில பெண் தலைவர்கள் விரும்பவில்லை. என்மீது தேவையில்லாத பொய் குற்றச்சாட்டுகளை வைத்தார்கள். இது குறித்து தலைவர்களுக்கு கடிதம் அனுப்பினேன். உண்மை கண்டறியும் குழுவிடமும் ஆவணங்களைச் சமர்ப்பித்துள்ளேன். இருந்தாலும் தொடர்ந்து நடக்கும் குதிரைப் பேரம் குறித்து வாய் திறக்காமல் இருப்பதை ஏற்றுக் கொள்ள முடியவில்லை. அதனால்தான் காங்கிரஸ் கட்சியில் இருந்து விலகும் முடிவை எடுத்தேன்.”
தேர்தல் தோல்விதான் இந்த முடிவு எடுப்பதற்கான காரணமா?
”தேர்தலை நேர்மையான முறையில் எதிர்கொண்டேன். ஓர் அலையால்தான் தோல்வி அடைந்தேன். 2021-ல் நான் காங்கிரஸில் சேரும்போதும் மத்தியில் பா.ஜ.க-வும், மாநிலத்தில் தி.மு.க-வும் ஆட்சியில் இருந்தன. வெறும் 2 மாநிலங்களில்தான் காங்கிரஸ் ஆட்சியில் இருந்தது. மதவாத சக்திகளுக்கு எதிரான ஜனநாயகக் கட்சி என காங்கிரஸில் சேர்ந்தேன். 5 வருடங்கள் உண்மையாக உழைத்தேன். ஆனாலும் உட்கட்சிப் பூசலால் என்னால் தொடர்ந்து பணியாற்ற முடியவில்லை. குறை என்று நான் சொல்லும்போது, விரைவான நடவடிக்கை எடுக்காததால் விலகும் முடிவை எடுத்தேன்.”
தி.மு.க-வில் நீங்கள் இணைந்ததற்கான காரணம் என்ன?
”பதவி, பவர் வேண்டுமென வெற்றி பெற்றவர்கள் பின்னால்தான் எல்லோரும் செல்வார்கள். ஆனால் அதுமட்டும் அரசியல் இல்லை. இன்று மக்கள் மாயஜால அரசியலை நோக்கிப் போகிறார்கள். ஆனால் அந்த முகத்திரை விரைவில் கிழியும். கொள்கை ரீதியான அரசியல் பாதையில் பயணிக்க வேண்டுமென தி.மு.க-வை தேர்ந்தெடுத்துள்ளேன். தமிழ்நாட்டில் எல்லா விஷயங்களுக்காகவும், மதவாத சக்திகளுக்கு எதிராகவும் முதல் குரல் கொடுப்பது முன்னாள் முதலமைச்சர் மு.க.ஸ்டாலின் தான். தமிழ்நாட்டிற்கு திராவிட சித்தாந்தம் வேண்டும் என்பது இன்றைய காலத்தின் கட்டாயம். ஆனால் ஒரு திராவிடக் கட்சியை முழுதாக அழித்துவிட்டார்கள். எனவே, சமூகநீதி, சமத்துவம் தொடர வேண்டும் என்பதால் தி.மு.க-வில் இணைந்துள்ளேன்.”
