A woman from Kerala who returned home from Sudan is being given intensive treatment after being suspected of showing symptoms of Ebola.
A 54-year-old woman from Kottayam district, who returned home from South Sudan, had been suffering from a severe fever and was receiving treatment at a private hospital.
Intensive surveillance measures are being carried out across various states in the country to prevent the spread of the Ebola infection, which has been affecting African countries.
Following this, in suspicion that the woman may have contracted Ebola, health officials have isolated her in the special ward at Kottayam Government Hospital and are treating her.
However, the hospital says that the woman has only a fever and no other symptoms of Ebola infection have been observed.
Meanwhile, samples collected from the woman have been sent to a laboratory in Thiruvananthapuram for testing. Officials have said that if the test results confirm Ebola infection, a separate medical team will be formed for the next stage of treatment.
Earlier, as the spread of Ebola has accelerated in countries including Congo and Sudan, it is noteworthy that more than 676 people have died due to Ebola since May 15.
