When former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam joined the DMK and contested in the Bodinayakkanur constituency, there were expectations about whether he would win or lose. The belief that ADMK had won here for so long and that O.P.S did not have a separate influence was widespread throughout the constituency. Prakash, who contested on behalf of D.V.K., was initially a Vijay fan and took responsibility as the district secretary when the party started. He was a familiar face to most young people and had been known to the constituency people since the party's inception. Because of this, he became a recognized and popular figure. This was reflected during the election. From the beginning, Panneerselvam was leading but then started to fall behind. When D.V.K. candidate Prakash took the lead in the 10th round, O.P.S. was shocked.
After that, the person who was leading by 200 votes continued at the same pace. It was only in the final round that he gained additional votes and ultimately won by a margin of 6,805 votes. With this, O.P.S. recorded his sixth victory.
