In the Thrippunithura Assembly constituency of Ernakulam district, Kerala state, actress Anjali Nair is contesting as the candidate of the Twenty20 party, an ally of the BJP coalition. Opposing her are K.N. Unnikrishnan from the CPM and Deepak Joy from the Congress. The Twenty20 party candidates in the Kerala BJP alliance are contesting under the plantain symbol. Anjali Nair has also been allotted the plantain symbol. She is going door to door, campaigning for votes under the 'Chakka' (plantain) symbol. Although she is famous in cinema by the name Anjali Nair, her official government records list her name as Anjali P.V.
According to government documents, since the nomination was submitted under that name, her name has been recorded as 'Anjali P.V.' on the voting machine. In this situation, she has filed a petition in the High Court in Kochi requesting that her name be registered as Anjali Nair on the electronic voting machine. Regarding this, Anjali Nair of the BJP stated: Although the name Anjali P.V. was used in the election nomination, in public life and the film industry, my name is Anjali Nair. Even during the election campaign and on the posters released, my name appears as Anjali Nair. However, since the voting machine shows Anjali P.V., it will cause confusion among the voters who come to cast their votes.

அரசு ஆவணங்களின்படி வேட்புமனுத் தாக்கல் செய்ததால் அவரது பெயர் வாக்குப்பதிவு இயந்திரத்தில் ‘அஞ்சலி பி.வி’ எனப் பதிவு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்த நிலையில் மின்னணு வாக்குப்பதிவு இயந்திரத்தில் தனது பெயரை அஞ்சலி நாயர் எனப் பதிவுசெய்ய வேண்டும் என கொச்சியில் உள்ள ஐகோர்ட்டில் அவர் மனுத் தாக்கல் செய்துள்ளார்.
இதுகுறித்து அஞ்சலி நாயர் தெரிவித்துள்ளதாவது:
தேர்தல் மனுவில் அஞ்சலி பி.வி என்ற பெயரைப் பயன்படுத்தியிருந்தாலும், பொது வாழ்விலும் திரைத்துறையிலும் எனது பெயர் அஞ்சலி நாயர் என்று உள்ளது. தேர்தல் பிரசாரத்தின்போதும், போஸ்டர்கள் வெளியிட்டதிலும் அஞ்சலி நாயர் என்றே எனது பெயர் உள்ளது. ஆனால் வாக்குப்பதிவு இயந்திரத்தில் அஞ்சலி பி.வி என்று இருப்பதால் ஓட்டுப்போட வரும் வாக்காளர்களிடையே குழப்பத்தை ஏற்படுத்தும்.
எனக்கு கிடைக்க வேண்டிய வாக்குகளை இழக்க நேரிடும். எனவே அஞ்சலி பி.வி. என்பதை மாற்றி அஞ்சலி நாயர் என்று வாக்குப்பதிவு இயந்திரத்தில் பதிவுசெய்ய வேண்டும் எனக் கோரி மாவட்ட தேர்தல் அதிகாரியிடம் விண்ணப்பித்திருந்தேன்.
தேர்தல் அதிகாரியிடம் தேவையான ஆதாரங்களையும் சமர்ப்பித்திருந்தேன். ஆனால் தேர்தலில் போட்டியிடுபவர்களின் இறுதி வேட்பாளர் பட்டியல் வெளியானபோதும் எனது பெயர் அஞ்சலி பி.வி. என்றே பதிவாகியுள்ளது. அதில் திருத்தம் செய்யக் கோரி மாவட்ட தேர்தல் அதிகாரியிடம் மீண்டும் விண்ணப்பித்த போதிலும் எந்த முடிவும் அறிவிக்கப்படவில்லை.
இந்தச் சூழலில் மாநிலத் தலைமைத் தேர்தல் அதிகாரியிடம் புகார் அளித்தும் இதுவரை பதில் கிடைக்கவில்லை. எனவே இது சம்பந்தமாக ஐகோர்ட்டில் மனு தாக்கல் செய்துள்ளேன். அஞ்சலி பி.வி என்பதற்கு பதில் அஞ்சலி நாயர் என்ற பெயரை மின்னணு வாக்குப்பதிவு இயந்திரத்தில் பொருத்த உத்தரவிட வேண்டும் என மனுவின் கூறி உள்ளேன்.
