Shivakumar has said that he is ready to hold talks with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay to build the Mekedatu dam. Not only that, he has tried to deceive the people of Tamil Nadu by saying that the Mekedatu project is a balancing reservoir project, and that if water is stored there, it can be easily released to Tamil Nadu during drought periods.”
The Supreme Court has ruled that Karnataka must not build a dam without the consent of the states of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry through which the Cauvery River flows. It is the duty of Chief Minister Shivakumar, who has taken office under the Constitution, to respect this. However, instead of respecting the Supreme Court’s verdict, he has been saying that the Mekedatu dam will definitely be built. If the Karnataka Congress government builds a dam at Mekedatu, even the surplus water that is now reaching Tamil Nadu will stop coming. Tamil Nadu will turn into a desert.
Therefore, the newly formed T.V.K. government in Tamil Nadu must stop the construction of a dam across the Cauvery at Mekedatu. T.V.K. has formed an alliance with the Congress party, which is ruling Karnataka. Sivakumar thinks that since our alliance party is the one governing Tamil Nadu, they can somehow be deceived and a dam can be built at Mekedatu. But Chief Minister Joseph Vijay, who has brought Congress into the alliance, given it a ministerial post, and is cozying up to it, has been taking a soft stance on the Mekedatu dam issue. This will cause great harm to Tamil Nadu.
Therefore, Chief Minister Joseph Vijay should personally meet the leaders of the alliance partner Congress—Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge—and urge them to instruct D.K. Shivakumar not to build a dam at Mekedatu. Even though he does not have a majority, Chief Minister Joseph Vijay should use the same speed and skill he is now showing in forming a government and in buying opposition MLAs to retain power, for the welfare of Tamil Nadu as well.
“Instead of merely writing letters to the central government, making appeals to the Karnataka Chief Minister, and passing resolutions in the Assembly like the previous DMK government, the alliance partner Congress leaders should be met in person and the construction of the Mekedatu dam should be stopped. In the Mekedatu dam issue, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government’s actions must be solely in the interest of Tamil Nadu. It should never adopt a soft approach toward the Karnataka Congress government just to retain power. If it does so, history will never forgive Chief Minister Joseph Vijay,” it has been stated.

வெறுமனே மத்திய அரசுக்கு கடிதம், கர்நாடக முதலமைச்சருக்கு கோரிக்கை, சட்டமன்றத்தில் தீர்மானம் என்று கடந்த கால தி.மு.க அரசைப் போல வெற்று நாடகங்களை நடத்திக் கொண்டிருக்காமல், கூட்டணிக் கட்சியான காங்கிரஸ் தலைவர்களை நேரில் சந்தித்து மேகதாது அணை கட்டுவதை தடுத்து நிறுத்த வேண்டும். மேகதாது அணை பிரச்சினையில் த.வெ.க. அரசின் செயல்பாடு தமிழகத்தின் நலன் சார்ந்ததாக மட்டுமே இருக்க வேண்டும். ஆட்சியை தக்க வைத்துக்கொள்ள கர்நாடக காங்கிரஸ் அரசிடம் மென்மையான அணுகுமுறையை ஒருபோதும் கையாளக் கூடாது. அப்படி செய்தால் வரலாறு முதலமைச்சர் ஜோசப் விஜய்யை ஒருபோதும் மன்னிக்காது” என தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
