Chennai: The Chennai High Court has directed the Speaker and the Assembly Secretary to respond to the petition filed by AIADMK whip Agri Krishnamurthy challenging the order issued by the Speaker accepting the resignations of four AIADMK MLAs.
In a petition filed in the Madras High Court on behalf of AIADMK whip Agri Krishnamurthy, it was stated that while the disqualification inquiry regarding voting in favor of the government in violation of the whip during the confidence vote on the TVK government is pending, the Speaker issued an order accepting the resignations of AIADMK MLAs Madurantakam Maragatham Kumaravel, Perundurai Jayakumar, Dharapuram Sathyabama, and Ambasamudram Isakki Subbiah.
It was stated that this order should be canceled and that a ban should be imposed on announcing by-elections for all four constituencies.
These cases came up for hearing again today before the bench of Chief Justice Sushrut Aravind Dharmadhikari and Justice G. Arulmugan.
After hearing arguments from all sides in the case, the judges said that no interim order could be issued in the matter, and directed the Speaker and the Legislative Assembly Secretary to respond to the petition, adjourning the hearing of the cases to June 29.
