Chennai: Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar has sent notices seeking explanations from the 4 AIADMK MLAs who resigned.
After the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election, the AIADMK split into two factions, led by Palaniswami and S.P. Velumani. In the confidence vote on the TVK government in the Assembly, 25 MLAs from the Velumani faction voted in support of the TVK government, defying the AIADMK whip. Therefore, a petition was submitted to Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar by the Palaniswami faction, demanding that they be disqualified. Similarly, a complaint was also filed with the Speaker by the S.P. Velumani faction against Palaniswami.
Meanwhile, the Velumani faction met Palaniswami, expressed regret for violating the whip order, and formally submitted an apology letter. Both sides met the Speaker and said they would withdraw the complaint petitions they had each filed.
Accepting this, the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly announced that action against the 21 AIADMK MLAs who voted in support of the TVK would be dropped. At the same time, he also said that appropriate action would be taken on the disqualification petitions against the 4 MLAs who had resigned (Jayakumar, Isakki Subbiah, Sathyabama, Maragatham Kumaravel).
In this situation, notices have been sent seeking explanations from the four people who resigned from their MLA posts and joined the TVK. Speaking to reporters in Chennai about this, Assembly Speaker Prabhakar said, “Notices seeking explanations from the four who resigned their MLA posts were sent on June 9. One week has been given as time. Further action will be taken based on the explanations they provide. The selection of the AIADMK legislative party leader and whip is under review. The announcement for this will be made before the session begins.”
