In Wayanad district of Kerala state, many people were affected by a landslide disaster that occurred two years ago. On March 1 of this year, the Kerala government provided houses to 178 families under its 'Wayanad Model Township' project for those who had lost everything. Following that, new houses built on behalf of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) were handed over yesterday to 51 families. Wayanad: The IUML, a key ally of the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), has initiated this rehabilitation project in Vellithottam, located in the Thirikkapatta area.
Each house provided under this project is designed with three bedrooms, a kitchen, and all modern amenities. It is believed that this will help the beneficiaries to start their lives safely once again. According to the religious beliefs of the beneficiaries, prayers and housewarming ceremonies were conducted yesterday morning in their respective ways. Videos related to this were shared on the party's social media platforms. The formal inauguration ceremony of this project took place yesterday evening. IUML leader Syed Sadiq Ali Shahab Thangal and senior leader P.K. Kunjalikutti, among others, participated. In this event, P.K. Kunjalikutti spoke,
"We are deeply moved to see the joy on the faces of those who have lost everything. This assistance we have been able to provide to those who have overcome hardships is a testament to collective spirit," he said. It is said that once this project is completed, efforts to build a modern city in this area, including a community hall, an Anganwadi center, and a park, will be intensified. This joint effort has brought great relief to the affected families who were living in rented houses. For this grand project, IUML has undertaken a new initiative. Notably, instead of the usual fundraising methods, they have raised funds through a large-scale crowdfunding campaign conducted via a dedicated app.
