In the contempt of court case filed over the failure to light a lamp on the pillar at the summit of Thiruparankundram hill, based on the order of a single judge, the Madurai Bench of the High Court has directed the Tamil Nadu government to state its position.
In this regard, during a press meet, Thiruparankundram MLA and Minister Nirmal Kumar said, ``The lamp will be lit on the hill during Karthigai as per the existing practice. In the Thiruparankundram issue, people want peace. The people’s wish is that the peaceful atmosphere should continue; that is the government’s position as well," he said.
In this regard, BJP senior leader Tamilisai Soundararajan wrote on her X page, ``I strongly condemn the interview given by Tamil Nadu Electricity Minister Nirmal Kumar in Madurai. He is portraying the struggle to establish rights in Thiruparankundram as if it were somehow disturbing peace, and saying that we will stick to whatever the situation was two years ago. He is asking why change is needed.
If that is the case, if you say let the situation in Tamil Nadu remain as it was two years ago, then can the people of Tamil Nadu ask how all of you came here and why you came here? It was precisely because the sentiments of the majority of people in Thiruparankundram were not respected that the previous government was rejected. Somehow, all of you seem to have won by the whistle blown during the emergency. That is why the loud voices of people fighting for their rights will not reach your ears.
Not only that, the minister’s interview does not seem to have respected either the High Court’s verdict or established practice. Moreover, when it is necessary to inform the public of what they need to know, and when events against the people take place, all leaders adopt the practice of giving interviews. But the Electricity Minister is belittling even that practice.
First, journalists should have asked a rebuttal question about this. Is he belittling those who respect journalists and hold press conferences by saying that many people attend press meets just to show their presence?
It is surprising to say that these media are unnecessary, when they have achieved their success through today’s technological methods, whereas just a few years ago press releases were the only thing available.
Therefore, ministers affiliated with the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam party, instead of properly addressing the problems in their own departments, are superficially handling emotionally sensitive issues in Tamil Nadu and giving interviews, which shows their lack of concern for the people of Tamil Nadu.
Rather than focusing on the idea of preventing the lighting of the lamp at Thiruparankundram, it would be better if the minister first paid attention to resolving the ongoing power cuts in Tamil Nadu and the irregularities in that department.

அதுமட்டுமல்ல அமைச்சரின் பேட்டி உயர் நீதிமன்றத்தின் தீர்ப்பையோ வழக்கத்தையும் மதித்ததாக தெரியவில்லை. அதுமட்டுமல்ல மக்களுக்கு வேண்டியவற்றை தெரியப்படுத்த வேண்டும் என்றும் மக்களுக்கு எதிரான நிகழ்வுகள் நடக்கும் பொழுது எல்லா தலைவர்களும் பேட்டி கொடுக்கும் முறையை கையாளுகிறார்கள். ஆனால் அந்த முறையையும் மின்சார அமைச்சர் கொச்சைப்படுத்துகிறார்.
முதலில் பத்திரிகையாளர்கள் இதற்கு எதிர்ப்பு கேள்வி கேட்டிருக்க வேண்டும். தங்கள் இருப்பைக் காட்டிக் கொள்வதற்கே பலர் பத்திரிகையைச் சந்திப்புகளைச் சந்திக்கிறார் என்று பத்திரிகையாளர்களை மதித்து பத்திரிகையாளர் சந்திப்பு நடத்துபவர்களை இவர் கொச்சைப்படுத்துகிறாரா?

திருப்பரங்குன்றத்தில் தீபம் ஏற்றுவதைத் தடுக்கும் எண்ணத்தை விட முதலில் தமிழகத்தின் நிலவும் மின்வட்டையும் அந்தத் துறையில் உள்ள முறைகேடுகள்கேடுகளையும் களைவதில் அமைச்சர் அக்கறை செலுத்தினால் நலமாக இருக்கும்.
