The incident that unfolded in Pudukkottai yesterday (31-5-2026) has caused major shockwaves among the progressive and democratic forces of Tamil Nadu. The question now being raised not only in Pudukkottai but across the state is: ‘Why should the police be so strict about not allowing the screening of a documentary that speaks of religious harmony, especially one that has already been watched by tens of thousands of people on YouTube?’
In Pudukkottai, an independent organization called ‘Veedhi’ Kala Ilakkiya Kalam has been functioning. The 144th meeting of this organization, which focuses entirely on discussions about literature, writing, creativity, and cinema, had been planned. As the main highlight of the event, it was announced that the documentary titled 'Thirupparankundram Files,' directed by Thavam and Tamizhthasan, would be screened.
Initially, the poster had announced that this event would be held in another meeting hall. The moment the matter reached the intelligence department, the police sprang into action. It is said that severe pressure was brought to bear on the hall owner, telling him that “it should not be screened there.” Following this, the organizers tried to change the venue and hold the event at the Pudukkottai Science Movement conference hall.
However, the police team that rushed to the spot there too firmly ordered, "This film must not be screened here. If it is screened, law and order will be affected. Pack up immediately!"
The event organizers and documentary filmmakers, shocked by this sudden obstruction, surrounded the police and engaged in an argument.
"Madam SI.. we didn’t make this film in secret. Last February, at the ‘Fourth Frame’ theater in Chennai, we released it in the presence of former minister Mano Thangaraj and VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan. So far, it has been screened in four places. More than 65,000 people have watched it on YouTube as well. This is not a film that hurts anyone’s feelings; rather, it is a film that emphasizes Hindu-Muslim religious harmony!" said directors Thavam, Tamizhthasan, and members of the 'Veethi' organization, seeking justice from the police.
However, when the police remained adamant, saying, "This is an order from above... we cannot ask anything else, and we will not allow it to be screened," tension spread there. Later, instead of screening the documentary, the event turned into one where views about the film were expressed, along with a protest meeting against it.
Documentary filmmakers Tamizhthasan and Thavam, who spoke at the meeting about this, said,
"We are not people with a cinema background; we have no experience in making films either. But we created this documentary with the sole aim of breaking the slanders and fabricated stories being deliberately spread around Thiruparankundram and bringing the truth to the people.
Rather than saying it in plain text, it reaches people faster if it is conveyed as a visual record. For this, we shot nearly 40 hours of footage. By trimming it down, we have now turned it into a documentary that is 1 hour and 17 minutes long. There is immense hard work by many people behind this," he said.
Continuing, Tamizhthasan said, "We went into the field with cameras only to say, based on a court verdict, who this hill legally belongs to. But we were shocked to see the long-term political plans behind it. In Thiruparankundram, some political forces are deliberately creating certain major issues:
These are not all things happening by chance; they are stories deliberately created for a specific political purpose. That is what our film addresses!" he said passionately.

"In Ayodhya, since they did not get the support of the local people, they brought in outsiders and turned a problem into a major issue. The same thing is happening in Thiruparankundram as well. The local people are very clear; they have not expressed any opposition. It is the outsiders who come and stir up the issue.
The already released film ‘Kandan Malai’ is currently running on YouTube, having crossed 1 million views. In 1996, comrades including S. Venkatesan fought against the strong branch of the RSS movement that was present there. But today, since the leftist political sphere has suffered a setback among the new generation, there is a shortage of people to carry forward movements there. Some forces are taking advantage of this.
In Tamil Nadu, true religious harmony is not about the 3% minority people blending in with the majority, but about how the 97% majority Hindu people accept that 3% minority as their own brothers and treat them with unity.
In rural festivals, there are still customs where the temple gives Muslims the first honor and ties the parivattam. In Madurai, we have shown in our film evidence of Muslims who had left the town being brought back with drums and music and given the first honor.
Hindus provided 90% of the financial support needed for this documentary, which was started without any money. It is the police that is preventing this screening, saying, “This is the very true tradition of religious harmony!” he said angrily.
“If you look back at history, religions such as Buddhism, Islam, and Jainism, though they originated thousands of kilometers away from their places of birth, have come into Tamil Nadu. Since as far back as 2,000 years ago, works like Akananuru and Thirumurugatrupadai referred to this as Murugan’s hill, and at the same time there were also Jain beds there. Therefore, this hill has always been a confluence of many faiths.
The pillars in dargahs and mosques have an ancient design, much like those found in temples. This is part of the traditional architectural heritage of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. It has always been the Tamil tradition to accept the good ideas from any religion. Just as pottery shards bearing the name “Sikaikotran” were found in Egypt, our culture too has spread across the world.
In a democratic country, how is it justifiable to crush freedom of expression like this?

Condemning this police obstruction, Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artists Association state deputy president, poet Na. Muthu Nilavan, Pudukkottai district secretary Alangudi Vellaichamy, World Film Association president Ilango, and writer Bharathi Thambi recorded their protests, and said it is the duty of all of us to take this documentary, which has been uploaded on YouTube, to the wider public.

வெறும் எழுத்து வடிவில் சொல்வதை விட, காட்சிப் பதிவாக கொண்டு சென்றால் தான் மக்களிடம் வேகமாகச் சேரும். இதற்காகக் கிட்டத்தட்ட 40 மணி நேரக் காட்சிகள் (Footage) எடுத்தோம். அதைச் சுருக்கிச் சுருக்கி, தற்போது 1 மணி நேரம் 17 நிமிடங்கள் கொண்ட ஆவணப்படமாக மாற்றியுள்ளோம். இதற்குப் பின்னால் பலரின் மிகப்பெரிய உழைப்பு இருக்கிறது.” என்றார்.
தொடர்ந்து பேசிய தமிழ்தாசன், “சட்டப்படி இந்த மலை யாருக்குச் சொந்தம் என்று நீதிமன்றத் தீர்ப்பின் அடிப்படையில் சொல்லவே நாங்கள் கேமராவுடன் களமிறங்கினோம். ஆனால், அதற்குப் பின்னால் இருக்கும் நீண்ட கால அரசியல் திட்டங்களைக் கண்டு அதிர்ந்துபோனோம். திருப்பரங்குன்றத்தில் சில முக்கியப் பிரச்சினைகளைச் சில அரசியல் சக்திகள் திட்டமிட்டு உருவாக்குகிறார்கள்:

“அயோத்தியில் உள்ளூர் மக்களின் ஆதரவு கிடைக்காததால்தான், வெளியூர் ஆட்களைக் கொண்டு வந்து ஒரு பிரச்சினையைப் பெரிய விஷயமாக்கினார்கள். அதேபோலத்தான் திருப்பரங்குன்றத்திலும் நடக்கிறது. உள்ளூர் மக்கள் மிகவும் தெளிவாக இருக்கிறார்கள்; அவர்கள் எந்த எதிர்ப்பும் தெரிவிக்கவில்லை. வெளியூர் ஆட்கள்தான் வந்து பிரச்சினையைத் தூண்டுகிறார்கள்.

சிறுபான்மையினராக இருக்கும் 3% மக்கள் பெரும்பான்மையினருடன் இணைந்து போவதை விட, 97% இருக்கும் பெரும்பான்மை இந்து மக்கள் அந்த 3% சிறுபான்மையினரை எப்படித் தங்களின் அண்ணன், தம்பியாக ஏற்றுக்கொண்டு ஒற்றுமையாக நடத்துகிறார்கள் என்பதுதான் தமிழ்நாட்டின் நிஜமான மத நல்லிணக்கம்.
கிராமப்புறத் திருவிழாக்களில் இஸ்லாமியர்களுக்குக் கோயில் சார்பில் முதல் மரியாதை மற்றும் பரிவட்டம் கட்டும் வழக்கங்கள் இன்றும் உள்ளன. மதுரையில் ஊரை விட்டுச் சென்ற இஸ்லாமியர்களை மீண்டும் மேளதாளத்துடன் அழைத்து வந்து முதல் மரியாதை செய்யும் சான்றுகளை எங்கள் படத்தில் காட்டியிருக்கிறோம்.
பணம் இல்லாமல் ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்ட இந்த ஆவணப்படத்திற்குத் தேவையான பொருளாதார உதவியில் 90% வழங்கியது இந்துக்கள் தான். இந்த நிஜமான மதநல்லிணக்க மரபைத்தான் காவல்துறை திரையிடக் கூடாது என்று தடுக்கிறது!” என்று குமுறினார்.
“வரலாற்றைப் புரட்டிப் பார்த்தால், பௌத்தம், இஸ்லாம், சமணம் போன்ற மதங்கள் அவற்றின் பிறப்பிடங்களில் இருந்து பல ஆயிரம் கிலோமீட்டர் தொலைவில் இருந்தாலும், தமிழ்நாட்டிற்குள் வந்துள்ளன. 2000 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பிருந்தே அகநானூறு, திருமுருகாற்றுப்படை போன்றவற்றில் இது முருகனின் தலமாகக் குறிப்பிடப்பட்ட அதே சமகாலத்தில், அங்கு சமணர்களின் படுக்கைத்தளங்களும் இருந்துள்ளன. எனவே, இந்த மலை பல சமயங்களின் தொகுப்பாகவே இருந்துள்ளது.
தர்கா மற்றும் பள்ளிவாசல்களில் உள்ள தூண்கள், கோயில்களில் இருப்பது போன்றே பழமையான அமைப்பைக் கொண்டுள்ளன. இது தமிழ்நாட்டின் மற்றும் கேரளாவின் பாரம்பரிய கட்டடக்கலை மரபாகும். எந்த மதம் வந்தாலும் அதிலுள்ள நல்ல கருத்துக்களை ஏற்றுக்கொள்வதுதான் தமிழர்களின் மரபு. எகிப்தில் ‘சிகைக்கொற்றன்’ பெயர் பொறிக்கப்பட்ட பானை ஓடுகள் கிடைத்தது போல நம் பண்பாடும் உலகெங்கும் பரவியுள்ளது.
ஒரு ஜனநாயக நாட்டில் இப்படி கருத்துரிமையை நசுக்குவது எந்த விதத்தில் நியாயம்?
கருத்துச் சுதந்திரத்தை காவல்துறை இப்படித்தான் பாதுகாப்பதா? இந்தத் தடையின் மூலம் இந்தப் படம் இன்னும் பல மடங்கு வேகத்தில் மக்களைச் சென்றடையும். இன்னும் கூடுதல் விவரங்களோடு, அடுத்ததாக ‘ திருப்பரங்குன்றம் ஃபைல்ஸ் – பகுதி 2’ கொண்டுவரத் திட்டமிட்டுள்ளோம். அனைத்து சமூக மக்களின் ஆதரவோடு எங்களின் கருத்துப் பயணம் தொடரும்!” என்று அதிரடியாக முடித்தனர் இயக்குநர்கள் தமிழ் தாசனும், தவமும்.
காவல்துறையின் இந்த தடையைக் கண்டித்து தமுஎகச மாநில துணைத்தலைவர் கவிஞர் நா.முத்து நிலவன், புதுக்கோடை மாவட்டச் செயலாளார் ஆலங்குடி வெள்ளைச்சாமி, உலகத் திரைப்படங்கள் சங்கத் தலைவர் இளங்கோ, எழுத்தாளர் பாரதி தம்பி ஆகியோர் தங்களின் கண்டனங்களைப் பதிவு செயததுடன் யூ-டியூப் இணைய தளத்தில் பதிவேற்றம் செய்யப்பட்டுள்ள இந்த ஆவணப்படத்தை பெரும்பான்மை மக்களிடம் நாம் கொண்டுபோய்ச் சேர்ப்பது நம் அனைவரின் கடமை என்றனர்.
“உண்மையைத் திரையில் காட்டினால் சட்டம்-ஒழுங்கு கெட்டுவிடுமா..?” என்ற கேள்வியோடு கலைந்தனர் அங்கிருந்த படைப்பாளிகளும், முற்போக்குச் சிந்தனையாளர்களும்.!
