The Strait of Hormuz, which Iran had declared closed, remains open, the U.S. Central Command said.
As peace talks are under way between the United States and Iran, Iranian forces shot down an Apache helicopter belonging to the U.S. military that was on patrol near the Strait of Hormuz last Monday (June 8).
In retaliation, the United States continued its attacks on Iran. As a result, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced on Thursday (June 11) that it had completely closed the Strait of Hormuz, a major global oil shipping route. It also said that ships passing through Hormuz in violation of this ban would be destroyed.
Since the Strait of Hormuz is already not functioning as usual, crude oil prices in the market have been rising. There is growing concern among people that such announcements from Iran could push crude oil prices even higher.
