Highlighting the major progress India has made in the field of space research, Union Minister for Science and Technology and Space Jitendra Singh said that India’s space economy will reach 40 to 45 billion US dollars in the next ten years.
Speaking to reporters in New Delhi on Sunday, he said that the country’s space economy, currently at 8 to 9 billion dollars, is set to grow to around 40 to 45 billion dollars over the next decade, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said.
Policy reforms, increasing private participation, and a rapidly expanding innovation ecosystem are driving this growth.
As science and technology have moved beyond laboratories to become part of the nation’s public consciousness, he said this transformation in the country’s space sector reflects a broader change taking place across the country.
One of the most significant achievements in recent years has been the strong bond that has developed between science and society. He also said that people now see themselves as stakeholders in the nation’s scientific progress.
The growing importance of science and technology in public discourse reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary outlook, which has consistently brought science-based initiatives into the national mainstream.
Programs such as Swachh Bharat, Digital India, Digital Health, the Deep Ocean Mission, and Gaganyaan have helped establish science and innovation as pillars of the nation’s development journey. The increasing participation of mainstream media in science and technology events reflects the growing public interest in scientific progress.
Projects like Chandrayaan-3 have made space science a matter of broad public interest, while also creating unprecedented awareness and engagement among citizens across the country.
The country’s growing capabilities in key sectors such as space, nuclear energy, and advanced technologies have strengthened its standing on the global stage. The confidence generated by these achievements has increased the credibility of indigenous technologies and further reinforced India’s position as a reliable technology nation.
