Following the easing of war tensions in West Asia, the Indian ship ‘Disha,’ carrying liquefied gas, safely passed through the Strait of Hormuz on Monday.
Shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz had been severely affected by the war between Iran and the US-Israel alliance in West Asia. Now, as it has been reported that a peace agreement between the US and Iran is likely to be signed soon, the tension in the region has eased.
Following this, the Indian ship ‘Disha,’ carrying liquefied gas, safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz. ‘Disha,’ which had been anchored in the Strait of Hormuz for three months since the start of the West Asian war, is the first Indian ship to have passed through the area.
This ship, operated by Petronet, is en route to Dahej port in Gujarat state. The Ministry of Shipping said that the ship is carrying 62,370 metric tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
That ship is likely to arrive in India on the 18th, said Omesh Kumar Sharma, Director of the Indian Ministry of Shipping and Ports.
Return to normal soon: Since it has been announced that a peace agreement between the United States and Iran will be signed soon, traffic of crude oil and gas ships in the Strait of Hormuz is expected to return to normal. If shipping returns to normal, it is said that the supply of crude oil and gas to India from Gulf countries will be restored as before.
Possibility of a price drop: Due to disruptions in crude oil supply and the rise in prices in the international market, oil companies suffered huge losses in the sale of petrol and diesel in India. To offset this loss, the Central Government recently increased the prices of petrol, diesel, and cooking gas in India.
At present, if transportation in the Strait of Hormuz returns to normal, crude oil supply may become steady again as before, and its price in the international market could fall. As a result, experts have said there is a possibility that the Central Government may reduce the prices of petrol, diesel, and gas in India.
Crude oil price plunge: Earlier, after U.S. President Trump announced that the Strait of Hormuz would be opened and that there would be no need to pay toll charges to pass through it, the price of crude oil in the international market fell by about 4 percent.
