"Release P.R. Pandian" – Farmers Protest in Thanjavur and Thiruvarur
P.R. Pandian, General Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Cauvery Farmers Association and Coordinator of the Tamil Nadu All Farmers Association, has been raising his voice and participating in protests concerning agriculture and related issues. The ONGC company extracted crude oil in the village of Vikirappandiyam in Thiruvarur district. In opposition to this, P.R. Pandian, Selvaraj, Kumar, Uthirapathi, Kalaichelvan, and 22 others protested in 2015. During the farmers' protest, a case was registered against P.R. Similarly, former Panchayat board president Selvaraj was sentenced to 13 years and 3 months in prison and fined Rs. 13,000. The other 18 people involved in the case were acquitted. Following this, the police took both P.R. Pandian and Selvaraj and imprisoned them in the Tiruchirappalli Central Jail.
Political criticism arose regarding the 13-year prison sentence given to P.R. Pandian. Many expressed their opinions on social media. In this situation, protests were held today in Thiruvarur and Thanjavur demanding the release of P.R. Pandian and Selvaraj, and condemning ONGC. In Thiruvarur, more than a hundred farmers participated in the protest near the railway station on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Cauvery Farmers Association. The verdict against P.R. Pandian and Selvaraj has created fear among the protesting farmers. Both must be released immediately, and the ONGC administration should stop filing cases and intimidating the leaders who come forward to fight for the farmers. The central and state governments must take appropriate action to release P.R. Pandian. The ONGC administration must immediately withdraw from the Cauvery Delta districts. பி.ஆர்.பாண்டியனுக்கு 13 ஆண்டுகள் சிறை தண்டனை விதிக்கப்பட்டது குறித்து அரசியல் ரீதியான விமர்சனங்கள் எழுந்தன. பலரும் தங்கள் கருத்துக்களை சமூக வலைதளங்களில் பதிவிட்டனர். இந்நிலையில் திருவாரூர் மற்றும் தஞ்சாவூரில் பி.ஆர்.பாண்டியன் மற்றும் செல்வராஜ் இருவரையும் விடுதலை செய்யக்கோரியும், ஓ.என்.ஜி.சியை கண்டித்தும் இன்று போராட்டம் நடத்தினர். திருவாரூரில் ரயில் நிலையம் அருகே தமிழக காவிரி விவசாயிகள் சங்கம் சார்பில் நூற்றுக்கும் மேற்பட்ட விவசாயிகள் ஆர்ப்பாட்டத்தில் கலந்துகொண்டனர்.
இந்தத் தீர்ப்பு போராடுகின்ற விவசாயிகளுக்கு அச்சத்தை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது. இருவரையும் உடனடியாக விடுதலை செய்யவேண்டும், விவசாயிகளுக்காக போராட வரும் தலைவர்கள் மீது ஓ.என்.ஜி.சி நிர்வாகம் தொடர்ந்து வழக்கு போட்டு அச்சுறுத்துவதை கைவிடவேண்டும். மத்திய, மாநில அரசுகள் பி.ஆர்.பாண்டியனை விடுதலை செய்வதற்கு உரிய நடவடிக்கை மேற்கொள்ள வேண்டும். காவிரி டெல்டா மாவட்டங்களில் இருந்து ஓஎன்ஜிசி நிர்வாகம் உடனடியாக வெளியேற வேண்டும்.
பழைய பணிகள், புதிய பணிகள் உள்ளிட்ட எந்த பணிகளையும் ஓ.என்.ஜி.சி நிர்வாகம் டெல்டா மாவட்டங்களில் மேற்கொள்ளக்கூடாது என கோஷம் எழுப்பினர். இதேபோல் தஞ்சாவூரில் தபால் நிலையம் முன்பு தமிழக காவிரி விவசாயிகள் சங்கம் சார்பில் நடைபெற்ற ஆர்ப்பாட்டத்தில், பி.ஆர்.பாண்டியன், செல்வராஜ் மீது போடப்பட்ட வழக்குகளை ரத்து செய்ய வேண்டும், இருவரையும் உடனடியாக விடுதலை செய்ய வேண்டும் என வலியுறுத்தினர்.
