Voting for the Puducherry Legislative Assembly general election is scheduled to take place on April 9. In this context, Joseph Victor Raj, coordinator of the Puducherry Election Watch, has released a report regarding the candidates' assets and criminal cases. According to the report, "Since 2011, Puducherry Election Watch has been reviewing the affidavits of candidates and publishing reports for six elections. Accordingly, in the 2026 Puducherry Legislative Assembly election, 294 candidates are contesting in 30 constituencies. Among them, 34 belong to national parties, 63 to state parties, and 80 to registered unrecognized parties."
A total of 117 candidates are contesting voluntarily. Among the Puducherry government candidates, the affidavits of 291 candidates were examined. Of these, 66 candidates (23%) have pending criminal cases. 28 candidates (13%) face serious criminal charges such as murder, attempted murder, theft, and crimes against women. Two candidates have murder charges (IPC 302), and three candidates have cases related to outraging a woman's modesty pending against them. Specifically, 19 candidates have pending criminal cases: three from the Congress party, four from the N.R. Congress, five from the BJP, six from the DMK, and one from the AIADMK.
Similarly, out of the total candidates, 119 people, that is 41 percent, are crorepatis. Among them, 16 candidates contesting on behalf of the N.R. Congress, 10 candidates from the BJP, and 2 candidates from the L.J.K are crorepatis. Likewise, out of 21 candidates contesting on behalf of the Congress, 17 are crorepatis. The average asset value of these candidates is 7.21 crore rupees. The wealthiest candidates include L.J.K candidate Jose Charles Martin with assets worth Rs. 609 crore in first place, BJP state president Ramalingam with Rs. 115 crore in second place, and Minister Namachivayam with Rs. 85 crore in third place. Similarly, among those with the highest annual income, Jose Charles is in first place with Rs. 59 crore.
With Rs. 6 crore, PMK's Gopalakrishnan is in second place. There are criminal cases against 66 candidates. Similarly, independent candidate Vasanthkumar, with Rs. 1 crore, is in third place. Additionally, among the candidates, 134 have a degree or higher education. 125 candidates have studied from 5th to 12th grade. 25 have completed a diploma, and 4 are completely uneducated. Among the candidates, 53 are aged between 61 and 80. Similarly, 165 are between 41 and 60 years old. 73 are between 25 and 40 years old. A total of 40 women are contesting in this election, according to the Puducherry Election Monitoring Committee.

இந்த வேட்பாளர்களின் சராசரி சொத்து மதிப்பு 7.21 கோடி. பெரும் பணக்காரர்களாக ல.ஜ.க வேட்பாளர் ஜோஸ் சார்லஸ் மார்டின் ரூ.609 கோடி சொத்துகளுடன் முதலிடத்திலும், பா.ஜ.க மாநிலத் தலைவர் ராமலிங்கம் ரூ.115 கோடிகளுடன் இரண்டாம் இடத்திலும், அமைச்சர் நமச்சிவாயம் ரூ.85 கோடியுடன் மூன்றாம் இடத்திலும் உள்ளனர்.
