Due to the raging wildfires in France and Spain, around 350,000 people living in those areas have been evacuated to safe places.
In France’s southwestern Gironde region, wildfires have been burning for the past few days. The wildfire is approaching the Bordeaux area, which is famous for wine production. Taking into account the speed at which the fire is spreading, authorities have advised residents of five towns to move to safe places.
As of Sunday morning, the fire is said to be burning across an area of about 42,000 hectares. This is seven times larger than Manhattan in the United States and four times larger than Paris. French firefighters are actively engaged in efforts to contain the wildfire. Water is being dropped from aircraft to assist them.
Similarly, a wildfire is also burning in France’s Landes region. As a result, about 30,000 people living there have been advised to move to safe places. Including them, about 250,000 people in France have been asked to move to safe places.
In Spain, which borders France, a forest fire is also raging in the Valencia region. As a result, the Spanish government has asked 100,000 people living in the area to move to safe places.
One person has died in the Manises area near Valencia in Spain due to the forest fire. Recently, 13 people died in a forest fire in southern Spain. As a result, the number of people who have died due to forest fires in Spain this month alone has risen to 16.
