Chennai: The Meteorological Department has said that moderate rain may occur tomorrow (Aug. 5) in 9 districts of Tamil Nadu: Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Chennai, Tiruvallur, Trichy, and Karur.
Regarding this, the press release issued by V.R. Durai, a senior official and scientist at the Chennai Meteorological Department, said:
An atmospheric circulation is prevailing over south interior Karnataka and adjoining areas at an altitude of about 5.8 km. In addition, an atmospheric circulation is prevailing over the southwestern parts of Sri Lanka and adjoining areas, the central-western Bay of Bengal, and adjoining Andhra coastal areas.
Furthermore, a weak trough of low pressure persists in the lower atmosphere over the coastal areas of North Tamil Nadu.
As a result, today (Aug. 4), heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning may occur at one or two places in the hill areas of Coimbatore district, Nilgiris, Theni, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Salem, Namakkal, and Erode districts, as well as in Puducherry.
Moderate rain may occur at one or two places in the other Western Ghats districts, Chennai, Tiruvallur, Trichy, Karur, Pudukkottai, Dindigul, Madurai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Mayiladuthurai districts.
Tomorrow (Aug. 5), moderate rain may occur at one or two places in the districts of Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Chennai, Tiruvallur, Trichy, and Karur, as well as in Puducherry. Light rain may occur at one or two places in the rest of Tamil Nadu and in Karaikal.
On Aug. 6 and 7, heavy rain may occur at one or two places in the hilly areas of the districts of Theni and Coimbatore. Moderate rain may occur at one or two places in the other Western Ghats districts, and in the districts of Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, and Ranipet.
From Aug. 8 to Aug. 10, moderate rain may occur at one or two places in the Western Ghats districts. In the rest of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, light rain may occur at one or two places.
On Aug. 4 and 5 (today and tomorrow), the sky in Chennai and the suburbs will be partly cloudy. There is a possibility of moderate rain with thunder and lightning in some parts of the city in the evening or at night.
Warning for fishermen:
Strong cyclonic winds may blow over some parts of the Gulf of Mannar, the southern part of the South Bay of Bengal and some parts of the South Andaman Sea, many parts of the southwest Bay of Bengal, and some parts of the southeast Bay of Bengal until August 8.
In addition, strong cyclonic winds may blow over the central east area adjoining the central west Arabian Sea region and the central west Arabian Sea region until August 8. Therefore, fishermen have been advised not to venture into these areas until the above dates.
Rainfall:
In the past 24 hours, rain has fallen at one or two places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. The highest rainfall recorded was 7 cm in Kodavasal, Tiruvarur district, and 6 cm in Arugavur, Tiruvannamalai district.
