Chennai: With the Legislative Assembly session set to begin tomorrow, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi Palaniswami has urged that the arrest action against the Leader of the Opposition be immediately withdrawn.
In a post on his X account, he said, “Udhayanidhi Stalin, who could be the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, has been arrested by the police. We have been saying for many years that Udhayanidhi needs to mind his tongue. It is strongly condemnable that he continues to speak as he pleases without understanding the dignity of the responsibility he holds, and speaks disparagingly about women.
Filing a case over his speech is one thing. But with the budget session set to begin tomorrow, the government’s eagerness today to arrest the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly has raised doubts among the public that this may have political motives beyond the case itself.
The responsibility of the Leader of the Opposition is an important part of the legislature. The government’s move to function with the intention of sidelining that office-holder and then conducting the Assembly is deserving of strong condemnation. Likewise, with the Assembly session scheduled to take place tomorrow, I urge this government to immediately abandon the arrest action against the Leader of the Opposition,” he said.
