New Delhi: Compared with 2024, the number of U.S. visas issued to Indian students in 2025 has fallen by 62%, according to the research institute CIS.
PTI reported this, citing data studied by CIS (Center for Immigration Studies). The details are: in 2024, the number of Indian students who went to the United States on student visas was 58,694. This has fallen to 22,149 in 2025. In other words, there has been a 62% decline.
The U.S. visas issued to Chinese students have also declined. In 2024, the United States issued visas to 61,075 Chinese students. This has fallen to 40,034 in 2025, showing a 34% decline.
According to the annual survey conducted by the Institute for International Education, the number of foreign students who pursued higher education in the United States in the 2024-25 academic year was 11,776,766. Of this, the number of Indian students was 363,019, and the number of Chinese students was 265,919.
This accounted for 53 percent of the total foreign student population. It is said that this change may be favorable for American students.
