'Vijay effigy burning, Udhayanidhi waiting, journalists attacked' – uproar in Thanjavur

Under the leadership of Udhayanidhi Stalin, a protest was held in Thanjavur on the 3rd, demanding full waiver of farmers’ loans and condemning the TVK government for not preventing the construction of a dam at Mekedatu.

This sparked controversy over Udhayanidhi allegedly speaking in double entendre. In this situation, a case was registered against Udhayanidhi at the Thanjavur East Police Station under 7 sections, including insulting women. Following this, a police team that went from Thanjavur arrested Udhayanidhi in Chennai and brought him back.

Police had made arrangements to bring Udhayanidhi to the Thanjavur South police station. Heavy police security had been deployed for this. A large number of DMK members had gathered. About two hours before Udhayanidhi was due to arrive, they burned an effigy of Chief Minister Vijay.

When the DIG, SP, and others arrived at the police station, they shouted slogans. Realizing that the situation was not under control, the police decided to take Udhayanidhi to the Sengipatti police station.

Near the South Police Station, several people, including DMK functionaries Pazhanimanimickam, Vaithilingam, Durai. Chandrasekaran, San. Ramanathan, and a team of lawyers, were waiting. Later, when information came that Udhayanidhi was coming to the Sengipatti police station, they went there.

After nearly 8 hours of travel, the police brought Udhayanidhi to the Sengipatti police station. Udhayanidhi waited in the van for about 40 minutes so that the team of lawyers and others could arrive.

Later, an inquiry was held at the Sengipatti police station. When asked about speaking in double meanings, he said that he was not speaking about any individual and that he had not spoken in double meaning. In this connection, five important questions were asked. Udhayanidhi answered all of them in just a few words. It is also said that he was asked about violations of the rules set for the protest.

Employees from two channels have filed a complaint about this at the Sengipatti police station.

While Udhayanidhi was inside the station, Madhankumar from the youth wing brought snacks in a bag and gave them to him. Udhayanidhi ate the French fries, sandwich, and cashews in it. He remained inside the station for about two hours. Although the questioning was over in half an hour, he was made to wait for other formalities. During that time, DMK functionaries, Udhayanidhi, and the lawyers’ team were casually talking. After the questioning ended and Udhayanidhi came out on police bail, DMK members garlanded him. He then got into the car, waved to the gathered DMK members, and left.

DMK members are saying that after the defeat we had become subdued, and this arrest has stirred us up and brought us back into the field; TVK members are saying that our Chief Minister Vijay will not hesitate to take action against anyone who makes a mistake.

The police, however, have borne the brunt of the hardship. There was not enough police strength in Thanjavur. In such a situation, they managed to prevent any major untoward incident amid the huge commotion, they say.

குறிப்பாக தஞ்சாவூரில் கலைஞர் அறிவாலயத்தில் திரண்டிருந்த திமுக-வினர் ஊர்வலமாகச் சென்று ரயிலடியில் சாலை மறியல் போராட்டம் நடத்தினர்.

டி.ஐ.ஜி, எஸ்பி உள்ளிட்டோர் காவல் நிலையத்திற்கு வந்த போது கோஷமிட்டனர். நிலைமை சரியில்லாததை உணர்ந்த போலீஸார் உதயநிதியை செங்கிப்பட்டி காவல் நிலையத்திற்குக் கொண்டு செல்ல முடிவு செய்தனர்.
