VCK leader Thirumavalavan has posted regarding the arrest of Opposition Leader Udhayanidhi Stalin.

In connection with complaints filed over a DMK protest held in Thanjavur, alleging that he had spoken harshly and critically about Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay and women, Opposition Leader Udhayanidhi has been arrested and taken to Thanjavur.

Strong condemnations of the arrest have been voiced from various quarters. DMK members are staging protests across Tamil Nadu.

VCK leader and MP Thirumavalavan has posted on social media about the controversial remarks made by Udhayanidhi and his arrest.

Recently, speaking at a protest held in Thanjavur on behalf of the DMK for the Cauvery water rights issue, Opposition Leader Udhayanidhi Stalin made a remark in a kind of “double entendre,” mocking it in a sarcastic way.

When he said that the Chief Minister’s attention was focused only on filing false cases against the opposition parties, those gathered there shouted out the name of a famous actress. At that point, in an attempt to speak sarcastically, he made a remark that could be taken in the wrong sense. This has now become a national-level issue, to the point of being discussed and condemned in the English media.

A person holding a responsible position such as the Leader of the Opposition should have avoided speaking in this kind of double-meaning, sarcastic manner. Such an approach, which speaks disparagingly about a woman, is not appropriate to his political stature. It is not in keeping with civilized politics.

One should abandon the emotionally charged, self-forgetful approach driven by the urge to tailor one’s words to the taste of those around. That approach, which created an impression in a way that belittles womanhood, is worthy of condemnation.

In the context of the Legislative Assembly convening tomorrow, refraining from imprisoning the person holding the Leader of the Opposition post would enhance the ruling party’s goodwill.

At present, we wish to point out that this will help all parties and the public come together to raise their voices for the rights to Cauvery water, and also draw the attention of the Union Government of India,” he said.
