As opposition leader Udhayanidhi is being arrested and taken to Thanjavur, reports have emerged that some private schools there have suddenly been declared closed.
Udhayanidhi, the opposition leader, has been arrested in connection with complaints filed over his speech at a DMK protest held in Thanjavur regarding the Cauvery issue, in which he allegedly made harsh remarks about Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay and women.
Udhayanidhi, who was arrested this morning at his residence in Neelankarai, is being taken to the Thanjavur police station in a police vehicle. The police told the court that he will be questioned there and then released.
At present, lunch has been provided to Udhayanidhi at the Olakkur police station in Villupuram district, and a police vehicle carrying Udhayanidhi is now heading from Villupuram toward Thanjavur.
Meanwhile, television media reports say that some private schools in Thanjavur have suddenly declared a holiday and instructed that parents come and pick up the schoolchildren.
