India won 13 medals at the U-17 World Wrestling Championships and also claimed bronze in the team event.
The U-17 championship, held under the aegis of the World Wrestling Federation, took place in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. In the 60 kg category, India’s Chetender Malik successfully retained the world title he had won in 2025. He defeated Russia’s Sergei Karmiran 3-1 after a tough challenge to win the gold medal and create history.
With this, he became the second Indian wrestler to win two cadet world titles. Earlier, legendary Sushil Kumar had won world titles in 1998 and 1999.
In the 45 kg category, Hanumanth Rajendra won bronze by defeating Iran’s Mahidi Davood 7-1.
In the 92 kg category, India’s Saksham won bronze after a tough battle by defeating Iran’s Mohammad Reza 3-2. India won bronze in the FS team event.
