The TVK government, which won the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election, has presented its first budget for the year 2026–2027.
In this, Rs. 44,527 crore was allocated to the School Education Department. Many had noted that in the 2025–26 DMK budget, Rs. 46,767 crore was allocated to the School Education Department, and Rs. 48,534 crore in the interim budget.
People have been saying that the TVK government has now reduced the budget for the education department.
In this context, School Education Minister Rajmohan has posted about this on his X page. In the post he shared, he said, "The Victory Alliance budget has given a real increase in funding for school education!
The amount allocated for school education in the 2025-26 DMK budget is Rs. 46,767 crore. Of this, the amount spent up to before the interim budget was only Rs. 42,351 crore.
Since no new schemes were announced in the interim budget, and with several salary scales and expenditures overestimated, the amount announced for the School Education Department in the DMK’s last budget, the 2026-27 interim budget, was Rs. 48,534 crore.
That is, in the 2025-26 full-year budget, about Rs 6,003 crore was increased without justification compared to what was actually spent. Behind this unjustified increase were only incorrect calculations and unnecessary financial hikes.
Once the Victory Alliance government came to power, it corrected this properly, reduced unjustified financial increases, and allocated about Rs 2,176 crore more than what was spent on the School Education Department in the 2025-26 DMK budget.
The Finance Secretary has given a clear explanation regarding this.
Action will be taken to efficiently manage this Rs. 44,527 crore allocated by the victorious government, in accordance with the guidance of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, so that the full benefits reach students, teachers, and the school education administration.
He has explained that this genuine additional allocation will fully fulfill the lofty goals of the School Education Department."
