Karur: Three people, including brothers, drowned and died in water stagnating in the Cauvery River while going to immerse their mother’s ashes near Karur.
Devgi, the wife of Kuppusamy from Narasimapuram in Karur, had two sons, Suresh (65) and Arunan (60). Both were retired bank employees. Devgi recently died of old age. Following this, her sons Suresh and Arunan, along with relatives, went to the Nerur Cauvery River yesterday to immerse her ashes in the Cauvery River.
After crossing the riverbank, Suresh, Arunan, and seven others including relative Srinivasan (64) went to bathe in the river. At that time, three of them unexpectedly drowned in the water. When the others saw this and shouted, people nearby rescued all three and took them to a private hospital. However, doctors said they had already died.
Regarding this, Vangal police have registered a case and sent the bodies of the three deceased to Karur Government Hospital for investigation.
