Officials from the Central Revenue Intelligence unit inspected a container that arrived at the Thoothukudi V.O. Chidambaranar Port in October 2025. They discovered Chinese firecrackers banned in India inside the cargo container. Following this, the container was seized and four people, including businessmen from Mumbai who had illegally imported the Chinese firecrackers, were arrested.

Later, they sealed that container and kept it safely in a private warehouse on Harbour Road. In this situation, when Revenue Intelligence Department officials opened it before the judge for a court inquiry last May, the 607 bags of firecrackers and 4 bags of silicone glue that were in the cargo container were found to be empty.
Instead of fireworks, those bags had been filled with sand. Following this, based on a complaint filed by John, the manager of that private warehouse, the SIPCOT police station police registered a case and conducted an investigation. During the two-month-long investigation, it was found that nine people from Thoothukudi — TVK legal wing organizer Jesudas, Adhinagalingam, Govindasamy, Raja, Jayakrishnan, Immanuel, Anujith Janson, and Sakthi Vijay — had stolen Chinese fireworks and sold them.

Following that, the SIPCOT police station police arrested all 9 people. Meanwhile, Thoothukudi Central District Secretary Samuel stated in a release that Jesudas, a TVK functionary, has been removed from the party.
