The Chennai Meteorological Department has said that temperatures are likely to rise in the inland districts of northern Tamil Nadu.
In a press release issued on this, it said: In the lower atmospheric layers over Tamil Nadu, a west to northwest airflow is prevailing. As a result, northerly winds are prevailing in the inland districts.
In northern Tamil Nadu and the Kongu region, especially in Erode, Namakkal, Karur, and surrounding areas, rainfall is expected to be low over the next few days due to rain and thermal convection.
Furthermore, in the Western Ghats region, cloud cover and rainfall will decrease, and daytime temperatures will rise. Accordingly, in Erode, Karur, and some places in adjoining northern interior Tamil Nadu, temperatures are likely to increase by 2-3 degrees Celsius above normal from Monday (Aug. 10) to Thursday (Aug. 13).
Heat crosses 100 in 3 places: In Tamil Nadu, the highest temperature was recorded at Madurai Airport at 104.36 degrees Fahrenheit. Erode recorded 101.48 degrees Fahrenheit, and Nagapattinam 100.58 degrees Fahrenheit.
Rainfall report: The highest rainfall was recorded at 60 mm in Chennai’s Sholinganallur, and in Coimbatore district’s Cinchona and Upper Aliyar. In Chennai district’s Ambattur and Medavakkam, Coimbatore district’s Chinnakallar and Valparai, 50 mm was recorded. Kalavai, Ammur, Walajahpet (Ranipet), Raja Annamalai Puram, Adyar (Chennai), Solaiyar (Coimbatore), Katpadi (Vellore), and Arcot (Ranipet) recorded 30 mm of rainfall.
On Monday and Tuesday (Aug. 10, 11), light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning, along with strong winds, is likely at one or two places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
