The newly formed TVK government in Tamil Nadu presented the revised Tamil Nadu budget for the 2026–27 financial year for the first time today.
Finance Minister Mari Wilson, who presented the budget in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly today, spoke for nearly 150 minutes.
He announced schemes including 8 grams of gold and a silk saree for women getting married, helmets along with modern bicycles for 11th-grade students, laptops for college students, and free goats.
In the budget, Rs. 44,527 crore has been allocated to the School Education Department, Rs. 8,393 crore to the Higher Education Department, Rs. 17,150 crore to the Special Programme Implementation Department, Rs. 1,051 crore to the Youth Welfare and Sports Department, Rs. 3,937 crore to the Social Justice Department, Rs. 9,818 crore to the Women’s Rights Department, and Rs. 23,357 crore to the Medical Department.
Minister Maria Wilson also said that the government will work with determination to raise Tamil Nadu into a $1.5 trillion economy by 2036.
