The Sri Lankan court has ordered an extension of the remand of six fishermen from Kanyakumari district for the ninth time.
The case against the six arrested men came up for hearing for the ninth time on Friday at the Negombo court in Sri Lanka.
At that time, the Sri Lankan court ordered that the remand of the six fishermen be extended until August 20. Following the Negombo court order, all six fishermen were again lodged in Welisara prison.
Six fishermen from Manakudi area in Kanyakumari district had gone fishing in a country boat from the Mandapam fishing harbour in Rameswaram last May.
At that time, because the boat had drifted off course due to a malfunction, the Sri Lankan Navy arrested them and imprisoned them for fishing across the border.
