The Indian stock market ended today’s trading session (Aug. 6) on a positive note. After closing higher yesterday following the Reserve Bank’s announcement that there would be no change in the repo interest rate, that impact was reflected again today.
Shares of public sector companies and oil and gas sector stocks were among the gainers, rising in value. IT sector stocks and Nifty mid-cap stocks were in decline.
The Mumbai Stock Exchange index Sensex opened today at 78,782 points and gradually fell to 78,633 points.
However, in the afternoon it continued to rise and went up to a maximum of 78,954.76 points. By the close of trading, it had risen by 373 points and ended the session at 78,954 points.
The National Stock Exchange index Nifty opened this morning at 24,641 points. After gradually declining to 24,604 points, it rose by 11.35 points by the close of trading and ended the session at 24,636 points.
Among the top 30 stocks listed in the Sensex, shares of 9 companies were up and shares of 11 companies were down.
Among the biggest gainers, Reliance shares rose 3.52%. Next were SBI at 2.85%, Eternal at 1.91%, Titan Company at 1.75%, Sun Pharma at 0.57%, ICICI Bank at 0.52%, Axis Bank at 0.17%, and L&T at 0.12%.
Similarly, Power Grid fell 3.91%, Tata Steel 1.92%, TCS 1.66%, Bharti Airtel 1.52%, InterGlobe 1.51%, and Kotak Bank 1.50%.
