Rs. 28 crore bribe: order to conduct further investigation in the case against Vaithilingam

Chennai: The High Court has granted the Anti-Corruption Department permission to conduct a further investigation in the case registered against former minister Vaithilingam, alleging that he received a bribe of Rs. 28 crore to illegally grant planning permission for the construction of apartment complexes by a private company in Perungalathur.

Vaithilingam, who served as the Housing Minister during the 2011-16 AIADMK regime, is alleged to have granted planning permission in violation of rules for Shriram Properties to build apartment complexes in a hill-adjacent area in Perungalathur, and

A complaint was filed with the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in 2022 on behalf of the Arappor Iyakkam, alleging that Rs. 28 crore had been received as a bribe for this. Based on this complaint, the anti-corruption police registered a case in September 2024, two years later, during the DMK regime.

This case had been pending before the Principal Sessions Court in Chennai. Meanwhile, Vaithilingam joined the DMK in January this year.

Subsequently, in this case, a report was filed in court by the Anti-Corruption Department during the previous DMK regime, stating that there was not enough evidence against Vaithilingam and closing the case.

In this situation, with a change of government in Tamil Nadu under the leadership of TVK, a petition was filed by the Anti-Corruption Department seeking permission to withdraw the report that had been filed closing the case against Vaithilingam and to conduct a further investigation in this case.

The hearing on this petition took place before Judge S. Karthikeyan at the Chennai Principal Sessions Court. After hearing the case, the judge ordered the Anti-Corruption Department to conduct a further inquiry in the case against former minister Vaithilingam. In addition, the judge has ordered that the investigation in this case be completed within 3 months and the final report be filed.

இதற்காக ரூ. 28 கோடியை லஞ்சமாக பெற்றுள்ளதாகவும் குற்றம் சாட்டி அறப்போர் இயக்கம் சார்பில் கடந்த 2022-ம் ஆண்டு லஞ்ச ஒழிப்புத் துறையில் புகார் அளிக்கப்பட்டது. இந்த புகாரின்பேரில் லஞ்ச ஒழிப்புத்துறை போலீஸார் 2 ஆண்டுகள் கழித்து திமுக ஆட்சி காலத்தில் கடந்த 2024-ம் ஆண்டு செப்டம்பரில் வழக்குப்பதிவு செய்தனர்.

இந்த வழக்கு சென்னை முதன்மை அமர்வு நீதிமன்றத்தில் நிலுவையில் இருந்து வந்தது. இந்நிலையில் வைத்திலிங்கம், கடந்த ஜனவரி மாதம் திமுகவில் இணைந்தார்.

அதையடுத்து இந்த வழக்கில் வைத்திலிங்கத்துக்கு எதிராக போதுமான ஆதாரங்கள் இல்லை எனக்கூறி வழக்கை முடித்து வைத்து லஞ்ச ஒழிப்புத்துறை சார்பில் கடந்த திமுக ஆட்சியில் நீதிமன்றத்தில் அறிக்கை தாக்கல் செய்யப்பட்டது.

இந்நிலையில் தமிழகத்தில் தவெக தலைமையில் ஆட்சி மாற்றம் ஏற்பட்ட நிலையில் வைத்திலிங்கத்துக்கு எதிரான வழக்கை முடித்து வைத்து தாக்கல் செய்யப்பட்ட அறிக்கையை திரும்பப்பெறவும, இந்த வழக்கில் மேல்விசாரணை நடத்தவும் அனுமதி கோரி லஞ்ச ஒழிப்புத்துறை சார்பில் மனு தாக்கல் செய்யப்பட்டது.

இந்த மனு மீதான விசாரணை சென்னை முதன்மை அமர்வு நீதிமன்றத்தில் நீதிபதி எஸ். கார்த்திகேயன் முன்பாக நடந்தது. வழக்கை விசாரித்த நீதிபதி, முன்னாள் அமைச்சர் வைத்திலிங்கம் மீதான வழக்கில் மேல் விசாரணை நடத்த அனுமதியளித்து லஞ்ச ஒழிப்புத் துறைக்கு உத்தரவிட்டார். அத்துடன் இந்த வழக்கில் 3 மாதங்களில் விசாரணையை முடித்து இறுதி அறிக்கையை தாக்கல் செய்யவும் நீதிபதி உத்தரவிட்டுள்ளார்.
