In this situation, when Jyeshtabhishekam was performed for the idol on July 3, it was found that parts of the statue, including the feet, neck, and ears, were damaged.
As a result, the temple administration announced that the Aadi Garuda Seva would not be held. Devotees, disappointed at being unable to have darshan of the deity, insisted that the damaged idol be repaired immediately.
Following this, the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department decided to repair the damaged idol. Accordingly, over the past two days, on the 6th and 7th, restoration work was carried out on the processional idols of Varadaraja Perumal, Devi, and Bhoodevi.
During the days when this restoration work was being carried out, devotees were not allowed to have darshan of the main deity and the reclining deity. Subsequently, the restoration work on the processional idol was completed on the 7th.
Following this, along with Vedic chants, holy water was sprinkled on the repaired festival idols, and special pujas were performed. Then, devotees were allowed from the 8th to have darshan of the festival idol of Varadaraja Perumal, who appeared adorned with flowers along with Sri Devi and Bhoo Devi.
Regarding this, temple Assistant Commissioner Srinivasan said, “The damaged idol was repaired on Aug. 6 and 7. It was restored after obtaining the necessary permission and following the Agama rules.
After the work was completed, this idol has been permitted for devotees’ worship from Aug. 8,” he said.
