Chennai: An awareness rally on Organ Donation Day was held in Chennai Thoraipakkam by Chennai Curie Hospital.
In connection with World Organ Donation Day, a week-long series of awareness activities was conducted by Curie (Chennai Kidney and Robotics Institute) Hospital in Thoraipakkam, Chennai, among students and patients in colleges, including an organ donation pledge campaign, signature campaign, painting competitions, and awareness events on social media.
Finally, an organ donation awareness rally was held. The rally, which covered a distance of 2.6 kilometers from the Curie Hospital, was inaugurated by the hospital’s head, Dr. Sivaraman, and senior nephrologist Dr. Muthu Jayaraman.
More than 250 people, including doctors, healthcare workers, students, hospital staff, and the general public, participated and emphasized to the public the importance of organ donation.
The week-long awareness event, held under the leadership of Curie Hospital’s Head of Nephrology, Dr. Ajay Ratthoon, and kidney specialist Dr. C. Gugan, has the important objectives of creating awareness about organ donation among young people and the general public, dispelling misconceptions prevalent in society, encouraging people to share their wishes regarding organ donation with their family members, and reiterating the humanitarian message that the final chapter of one person’s life can bring light into the lives of many.
