Chennai: The School Education Department has ordered that petitions submitted by teachers at grievance redressal camps must be resolved within 5 days.

On behalf of the Directorate of Elementary Education, special grievance redressal camps for teachers are being held every month on Saturdays at the block education offices and district education offices. These camps are conducted with the aim of immediately addressing grievances related to the services of teachers and non-teaching staff working in primary and middle schools.

In this, teachers working in panchayat unions, municipalities, and government schools usually submit petitions regarding service records, special grade eligibility, salary benefits, and transfer requests.

In this situation, teachers complained that grievance redressal camps are being conducted only in name in some districts. Regarding this, they said, “Instead of organizing teachers together, they place a box and instruct us to drop our petitions into it. Even then, solutions to the grievances are not obtained immediately,” they said.

Regarding this, officials of the Directorate of Elementary Education said, “Special grievance redressal camps for teachers should be conducted at the respective offices under the leadership of the District Educational Officer and the Block Educational Officer, and the concerned officials have been instructed accordingly.

In addition, it has been ordered that appropriate action be taken on the petitions received at the grievance redressal camps within five working days. Furthermore, a separate register must be maintained in each office for this purpose. Through this, teachers’ grievances will be resolved promptly,” they said.
